The satallite signal takes too long. during one trip we were waiting for a singal for so long I took out my phone and got directions from google maps. That defeats the purpose. I used my parent's GPS (another brand) for the next trip and that works great. Unlike the Garmin other GPS beeps when you turn. The Garmin has great features but I always have to look down to make sure I'm following the path correctly. I shouldn't have to do that. I really was excited to use my new GPS but now I know it's more trouble than it's worth.

I have been using this device for about a month, i purchased this device because of reputation and reliablity, i did own a Magellan 800,I had to send it to repair because of freezing screens and not wanting to turn on multiple times and so forth. And i had paid a 1,000 dollars to purchase this device. So i cut my price by more then 75% and i have a precise and accurate device that gets me to where i need to get to, and on time.

Exceeds my expectations. Easy to set up. The wide sceen is a plus, and the audio is loud & clear when giving directions.
The (Points of Interest) is a great feature when you are in an unfamiliar location.
I didn't realize , to get map updates, you have to download them to a computer prior to updating the GPS.
Very Happy & Satisfied with the 260W.

I initially chose the Tomtom OneXLS as it allowed you to enter a zipcode for the address and could be purchased for considerably less. After trying it out I eventually exchanged it for the 260W and couldn't be more pleased.
The Tomtom has an akward zoom feature, where the Garmin has a plus and minus symbol. If you attemt to drag the map it wacks out, like it doesn't know what to do. I don't know if, in actual use, I'd ever desire to drag the map but, it seemed totally unacceptable. The Garmin does a nicer job with text to spech and it is a nice feature, especially in urban areas. In very condensed areas, I have found myself right ontop of the turning point when it is just finishing the instruction to turn. The volume is hard to hear with the windows down in traffic. But overall I'm very satisfied, and trusted it enough to blindly drive 10 hours from western MD to an address just outside Nashville, TN and wind up with it leading me right up the correct driveway based on the address I typed in 10 hours earlier. The points of interest feature is worth it weight in gold on long trips through rural areas, when the low fuel light comes on and you are starving. I found the Garmin to be extremelly accurate and up to date with these, I assume that in a few years an update would be necessary though. Perhaps the units will drop in price enough that instead of simply springing for an update it would make more sense to opt for a new unit.

Good, but TomTom ONE XL-S is better
By VACAKING from San Jose, CA on 5/13/2008

Pros:
Easy To Read, Easy To Set Up, Reliable Performance
Cons:
Inaccurate
Best Uses:
Finding Specific Address
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Overall a good unit, but I owned the TomTom ONE XL-S and decided to try this unit after mine was stolen. I had some issues with this unit while on a recent roadtrip, it got me lost while I was navigating in some of the newer areas, I would think the maps are really current since this model just came out. The TomTom ONE XL-S has free map updates, traffic capabilities, and safety features that this unit doesn't have, so I should have purhcased another TomTom ONE Xl-S because it's also cheaper than this unit.

It is horrible, I have been told to turn when there is no turn. I've followed directions and then it freaks out on me and recalculates. It takes about 5-10 minutes to acquire a satelite and then it looses it when I'm driving. I want to take it back but I can't find the stupid box and Garmin won't take it back when it doesn't have a box. I'm very disappointed!

I love this gps. This is the only one I have owned but think it is the best. I played with a Magellan, but thought the screen was slow and non-responsive. The Garmin is fast. Satellite acquiring was fast. Voice loud and clear, the street name pronunciation was great. I picked the 260W because I wanted wide screen, text to speech. I thought Bluetooth, MP3, voice recognition seemed nice but probably wouldn't use and interferes with the navigation function.
