No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I have had a Cobra GPS unit for over a year. It has been reliable, but it takes a long time (more than 5 min.) to access the satellite, if you don't turn on the GPS where you shut it down.
Another annoying feature is that the ETA (estimated time of Arrival) shuts off when get to a mile of a turn or a waypoint. So if you are in a city with a lot of turns, you will never get an ETA. I think the other popular models always display their ETA. For this reason alone, I would not buy another Cobra GPS.
