this was my very first digital camera. so I was VERY carful with it. Didn't drop it once. one day it just did not turn on. I recharged the batteries, tried EVERYTHING! it just stopped working after less than 4-5 months. Im online now looking for another one. many others have had my same problem and havent been able to get their money back. DONT BUY!!!!

I would deffinitly not recomend this to people who take pics. for a living. Its just it takes blury pictures if your in bright lighting. 5X optical zoom but if you zoom into much it will get blury. 8.0 mega pixel. if you do a video the sound won't be loud at all but only if you put it in the tv or somthing else.

I love this camera. [...]Ive had it for 4 days and its been doing great so far. Only problem I have with this is that it has a very weak Movie mode, the mic and speaker volumes are to low and it cannot take the suns light to well LCD goes black or to much blur. Anyways i love that it has a manual exposure time and alot of options in Scene mode + a Panorama settings (gives u a WIDE angle picture = )So yeah great product and good Optical Zoom = )

Camera Freezes Up

This was my first digital camera and I was really excited about finally stepping into the 21st century. Sadly, this camera turned me off and after less than 48 hours, I turned it back in to the store.

The pros are simple, the controls are easy to understand and getting started is a breeze.

The cons are quite a few. The picture looks bad through the LCD, once uploaded to a computer they are very dark, much darker than they look on the LCD, and the camera periodically freezes up for no reason.

The freeze up is what caused me to turn it back in and a Google search showed it to be a problem quite a few ppl have had with this camera.

I would not recommend this camera. For a few bucks more I got the Casio Exilim EX-S10 and am finally happy.

This GE Camera is manufactured by General Imaging CO., not by GE. General Imaging produces many other brand names. Suffice to say this GE Model E850 camera is great and a great value for the price. My only complaint is there is no protection for the lens cover leaves when the camera is shut down. Sand, Dirt, Lint and general crud could gum up the works. A neutral lens filter would help cover the leaves of the lens cover. Of course here is no way to attach it except by gluing it to the lens holder. That should work anyhow. Just use a couple of dabs of clear RTV around the perimeter to hold it in place.

This camera is the best. i took one look at it and i knew it was the one. i tried it out and it worked AWESOME. The battery does not run out. its like a never ending battery. but it does run out so youll have to charge it. but other than that ITS AWESOME. the picture are high quality.. totally get it

I just got my camera yesterday and i love it... i tried out almost every feature and its a really cool camera. I love the fact that you can plug it up to the television to view your pictures and videos! Its also cool that while its hooked up to the television you can take pictures and videos... I had a different camera before and this one spins circles around it!

I love this camera. It has been a great investment. I'm all about technology, and this fits my standards. This is a great camera for fun, journalism, and scapbooking. You will be amazed with everything it offers and its features. Low maintaince. Charge it up at night or whenever. The only thing i do not particurally like is the fact that you have to take the battery out and charge it into a diff charger. But other than that, its the BEST camera i have EVER used. Learn all about its functions. And it has its own built in memory card that way if yours runs out, you can still take and store pictures. NEAT!! PLUS, it has image stabillization and face detections!!

It's way too slow and you would think with 8mp it would have a nice crisp picture, but not even close. Even my best pictures had too much noise in them. Also when recording movies the quality was bad. It was like looking at photos and movies that were already 20 years old. Though it may look good and seems equiped with all the right stuff, the bottom line is it doesn't take good photos.

I totally love this camera but when I try to hook it up to my computer it just shows the message "connection error" this was an early christmas present from my parents(i still paid half though)and I'm really ticked off that it isn't working.Well other than that...It is a wonderfull little camera.I love the video length and everything else.But the trouble with the upload is just...I got realllyyy angry and I might return it.

I still enjoy my 35mm Nikon besides the Nikon SLR digital. Though, have waited until now to finally purchase a small digital without paying hundreds of dollars and still get the features I want. I can't stand most of the looks of other cameras, or that dreadful useless 3x optical, or the small screens. GE, thanks for putting together the 'package' and at a great price. This camera satisfied a very picky and conservative buyer.
Drawback; Keep a lens cloth handy to keep it free of smudges on the shiny black face.

This little camera has focus on weight. Not too heavy as a DSLR but not as light as the tiny little cameras that are easy to lose. Focus is great even though the basis is on an intermediate standard. Comparable to a Nikon D80 the camera has great clarity for an 8MP. The ISO is quick although you have to go through a menu to change it. Overall it's a great camera that shocked even the avid professional photographer. Now that I have had this for a couple of weeks I can now give it to my wife. It was good for my lazy days. Now back tot he complicated DSLR.

A few weekends ago I went to a college football game. I wasn't sitting exactly near the front; however, if you saw my pictures you would be amazed at how clear my pictures came out. Later that night while we were waiting in the tunnel for the players to come out, it was extremely dim. After changing the settings on my camera, I was able to take some really good shot that looked as if we were in really good lighting.

This is my third digital in 2 years! I had one that I didnt like, then I recently bought a 10MP which I liked but lost so I bought this GE and I absolutely love it! I take on average 30-50 pics a day of my daughter for contests, pageants and such and the picture quality is professional in my opinion. the pics are clear, bright, and sharp. sometimes i do get wishy washy pics but I am still learning all of the features on the camera. very easy to use though! Highly recommended!

This is one of GE's first cameras and they have done an amazing job. I normally buy Sony or Casio but I saw the 3" screen and picture quality is great. Has many options such as; wide angle lens, panorama, 3" screen, face detection.

Video Problems

Nice camera but I returned it after a day. In the manuel it says only digital zoom is available while shooting videos which would be fine BUT it's not true. In fact optical zoom is only available in video mode and the lens rocks backs and forth trying to focus making this feature useless.

I'll start out by saying the pictures are superb. The selection of ISO's and file sizes are impressive for a camera in its price range. Ther macro pictures are sharp and well exposed. One problem, however, occurs in bright daylight with the LCD screen. It's impossible to use in dirtect sunlight. The camera should also come with a screen protector. The larger the LCD screen the bigger the scratches. Other than that, if you are in the market for a point and shoot digital camera, I would consider checking out the G.E. E850. There are many cameras on the market to choose from...this camera should be one of them.

Been using this for the last few days, and though I was at first skeptical of GE, I must say, this is THE camera to get! The black finish is sleek, and has features like face detection, and wide angle lens that you don't find at this price. Also loved the panaorama stitching - it's not just the panorama assist I've had in my last camera, the panorama actually gets stitched in the camera!

This camera is of very poor quality. Mostly plastic and feels very cheap. All the shots are full of noise and do not focus properly. Indoor shots look really bag. Really poor quality, I am returning my camera today.
