Best Uses:

You really get what you pay for with this product. It was good at first but it drains the battery so fast in like 10-15 minutes it drains. The sound quality is horrible. It makes it sound robotic. I would get a camcorder with a charger.

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I took about 1500 pix and videos most at 15 to 20 mph for a road bike during the Tour de Thailand bicycle tour. Really I got the most fabulous pictures you can imagine but two big problems for some people would be battery life and a dull screen. I bought rechargeables(necessary) to solve the first problem. The second was a dull screen but I could hardly use the screen anyway and just pointed the camera from the bike. I also loved the solarization and pastel features and some of the other things other cameras cannot do. However the zoom stinks as it is electronic but gee, what to you expect for this price.

I use rechargeable batteries & a 2GB SD card, have the picture & video settings set to fine--when I upload to my computer via card reader I was totally surprised at the high quality of the snapshots, video & audio--fantastic!!--coming from such a small and relatively inexpensive camera! Video/snapshots taken outside/outdoors are the best---inside video/snapshots aren't really of the best quality but if there is good lighting that does help. The only real problem I have encountered is that I can't send videos via my email program (MSN)because the videos are in ASF and MSN won't allow it--which I find amusing because ASF is a Microsoft program!!!--but the snapshots are sent out just fine. note: when playing back the videos on the camera the audio will sound rather poor but once you have uploaded to your computer the sound quality is fantastic!!! This is a great little camera and I would recommend it!

this thing is just horrible. this thing not only can't operate in low lighting conditions but it's a battery eater. also when you do use the flash, the thing just "boom's" it and make it look like overexposed film. and another thing, i've used it on my computer and it needs an audio codec to hear your video recordings!

Bottom Line:

This is a great product to use if you are the kind of people that only recored for about 5 minutes at a time other wise the batteries start to drian quickly. Also when i say the screen has to "Warm Up" i mean i have to push and hold the menu button for 5 seconds and then move the control button untill the screen stays on. This camcorder is also a little sketchy when you zoom in it kinda pixilates but seriously how many times do u get a close up x5 zoom on a person. barly ever so i am going to have to most definetly recomend this product.

Terrible sound, bad in indoors lighting

Cons:
Low-Quality Recordings, Poor Battery Life, Poor Sound

The sound sampling rate is 8,000Hz. This is so terrible, I can't even begin to describe! I honestly don't even know where they found the chips to go at such a low sampling rate. That alone makes the camera ineffective for just about anything. It also performs very poorly under low-light conditions. Even when indoors in very comfortable reading light, it is not possible to see anything but black with the occasional red blob. You need to be outside for this to work.Bottom line is, for the sale price of [$], its okay. Your video quality will be that of one taken on a cell phone.

Terrible camcorder

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

another terrible camcorder that is no more than a cheap digital camera packaged to look more like a camcorder.

This unit and others like it have a few essential flaws, mostly the low recording quality and short recording times. Even though SD Flash Media has dropped in price, it is still too expensive to reasonably use this for more than 1:30 before bringing the SD card, or whole camera to your computer and copying the video off so you can do it again.

If you are thinking about buying this so you can easily transfer video to your computer, don't. Buy a Mini-DV camcorder with firewire port, they are of greater quality, the mini-DV cassettes are less expensive, and they handle like an actual camcorder; not like a flimsy sideways camera with a flip out screen.

Definitely not worth the money, and not worth using either.

Good for stills
By Nickolaus PacioneVerified Reviewer from Joliet, Illinois on 11/22/2007
Pros:
Can stick it in pocket, Good Value
Cons:
Battery eater, Learning curve
Best Uses:
Photography

It was a camera I grabbed at a pinch and this came in handy with doing the pictures on my anthology with it. The pictures I have on Tabloid Purposes IV -- all came from this camera. One thing that I have to say that is the cons about it has to be that it doesn't work well on indoor lighting suitations such as in dark nightclubs. It works for what I got it for. It has this James Bond type of vibe looking at the camrea because it is smaller than a wallet. I bought this thing earlier in the year too. [...] A thing of three batteries will last in the camera longer when doing still pictures and the stills turn out really well.

I received this camera as a gift when my husband propsed to me. The batteries died as soon as he was done giving me the ring. Can't get ANY batteries to last longer than 15 minutes. We have tried Alkaline, Rechargable, and Lithium. We have spent more on batteries than we did the camera. We called tech support and they said there was nothing they would do. This product was a comlete waste of money.

I really dislike this thing. From the day we bought it, it acted up. The LCD screen didn't work for a time, but then we realized that it was draining the batteries faster then we could buy them. Also I could never get the video to record correctly. Everything was blurry, Red and dark!

A waste of time and money!

It drains batteries ...
By Karen S from Florida on 6/7/2007

It drains batteries REALLY FAST, even the rechargeable so always have back up batteries with you! Pictures are good, videos are good, sound is low. Can't see the view screen in sunlight. No way to plug it in for power when you are using it with computer or t.v.

By Nick k from 3648 sanctuay drive on 6/5/2007

This camera is great for takibg picture and videos. I love it and i perfer this camera. The only thing that is bad is the sound, you cant hear too well when you take a video and watch it on the camera, but if you upload the videos onto your computer you can hear it. I like this camera and the 100 dollars were worth it.

I bought new batteries ...
By Ni K from Mid-West on 1/7/2007
Pros:
Easy to use

I bought new batteries and I only put them in late night the next morning it ran out!! There were a lot of things that weren't included in the box for me. the sound was really hard to hear. The pictures were okay. But the video taking was a bit complicated. It didn't work for me after the third day I bought it. I'm returning it now. though this is good for probably music, taking pictures, and simplistic (& I mean that) recording. Something you'd get for a child. Also I think they overpriced me at the store compared to the net!!

The Batterys last less ...
By Tabitha B from Arizona on 1/2/2007

The Batterys last less than about an hour, whether or not its on or off. The pictures are great, but if you take them too up close they look white. And the sound on the video is horrible when you play it back you cant understand a word, and theres no light when recording. Its lightweight but I wouldnt recommend this at all.

I got my DV5300SE for ...
By Gerald L from NC on 1/1/2007
Pros:
Durable, Easy to use, Good features, Good Value

I got my DV5300SE for Christmas and I love it. There a couple of things that I think Mustek could do to improve the camera. 1) They should add an AC adaptor feature because the batteries don't last long at all. They die out very quickly. 2) They should allow the built in lighting to work with the camcorder feature. If the lighting isn't right for recording then the feature is useless. Overall, I love my camera. I have had much fun with it so far.

Well, I got the camera ...
By Kyle C from Louisivlle, KY on 12/27/2006
Pros:
Durable, Good features

Well, I got the camera just yesterday, the flash is not good. If you want to do a "just-you" shot, your face is all white. But the picture is great. Best screen I've ever seen. Also, the features are good. The memory is not as good. So I recommend getting a memory card. But that's just my opinion...
