Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I needed to resolder some USB ports onto damaged flash drives for a client. This kit (in addition to some .022 solder and solder braid) did the job. The wire cutters were sharp enough to strip wiring and the iron was hot within a couple minutes. I also found the clamp useful. For $12 more than the basic Radio Shack solder iron, this gives you a lot more flexibility.
