Used it only to fix minor things around the house. Sure did not last long before the element went out. Was very disappointed in this item.

I use this for my amatuer (Ham) radio projects and so far it works great. You do have to be careful not to hold down on the trigger too long as the tip will overheat (read. GLOW RED HOT!) and ruin the gun. Granted, its not a Weller but it works until i can find a Weller locally.

Great gun, great value. I have about 12-15 hrs on it in the last year for everything from 16 ga. to 4 ga. Keep the tip clean and tinned and it lasts.

Buzzed like crazy: trigger control was not good, light went on and off, then just off.

After three weeks soldering 2hrs per day, element burnt out.

Tried to find replacement, so far nothing.
will they email? will they give back money???

Does FRy's have something like it???

We will see.

I emailed [...] about tips for this when I first got it and went to buy a spare tip. You can get them, but they are special order. If you drop them an email, they'll give you the part number... which reminds me.... I never did remember to order the tip....The best thing about it is that you can just about weld with the thing. It gets hot very quickly. You'll usually want to use the hot setting to get it up to temperature quickly, then switch down to the low setting for actual work. It's great for wiring cables and other general-purpose soldering. I even use it for some light-duty electronics (but no printed circuit boards and no direct soldering to silicon chips/transistors---you'd probably burn up the parts if you did).

Great gun, but no replacement tips are available. The money I spent trying to find replacement tips I could have bought a better gun from someone who offers replacement tips for their guns.

By Daniel TVerified Reviewer from Dahlonega, GA on 12/28/2005
Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

I bought this iron for soldering 6 & 8 guage power leads. It works well for these relatively heavy-duty jobs. 4 guage terminals require about a 20 sec. warm up before applying. Tip will glow red hot! A minor design improvement would include a power selector switch on the back as opposed to a two-stage trigger - just a suggestion. All in all a very good quality well-priced iron.
