The world's first solder Repellant!

Good heat control

No problem with the heat. But forget about 'tinning' the tip. This acts as a negative magnet for solder! Didn't think that was possible, but good luck getting any solder on the tip! The solder runs away from this iron. I tried all sorts of ways to break it in...nothing worked. A beginner will think they are doing something wrong..so I really can't recommend.

The rivet became loose with only about an hour. The tip will not tighten. One could find a better tool for less money. I would not recommend this product.

Pros:
Good heat control
Cons:
IT BLEW UP
Best Uses:
Minor Projects

This works great its good for small projects, But mine exploded. Well the thing shorted and the wires vaporized in a little ball of fire. It doesn't hold solder until you get the tip dirty.

Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

When you first get the iorn it will not hold any rosin core soldier BUT !!! Once the tip is broken in it WORKS GREAT !! Make sure to clean the tip with a damp sponge and its great for any type of general soldering work. It will even do pretty small joints with the precise amount of flux. Great iorn.

By Tom EVerified Reviewer from L on 5/17/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

This is a basic cheap soldering iron, it works fine and as it is very simple so it is reliable. If you only need to solder occasionally this will work fine. The stand it comes with is a safety hazard in itself though, it is light and the weight of the cord or the iron can knock it over very easily, this can cause serious burn injuries or fires. My advice is to throw the stand away, it gives you a false sense of security, if you cant afford a weighted stand then just use a metal or glass can or anything that can withstand the heat of the iron and that wont tip over.
