I have the older version of this meter, RadioShack catalog number 22-802. Paid [$] for it in 2002. Six years later, it's still accurately measuring AC and DC voltage, resistance, checking for semiconductor and cable faults. The clamshell broke off about 5 years ago, but didn't affect the performance. If it failed, I'd definitely consider the next step up, catalog number 22-820.It's actually nice to have an auto-ranging DMM that actually fits one's budget.Don't know for sure, but the continuity buzzer could double as a logic probe.
Bought this in May 2008 and used it once. Went back to use it early September 2008 and it had an internal fault => broken! The batteries are not the problem.
The store suggested that had I purchased the service contract, they would have sent it to be repaired and returned in two weeks. Sure - a service contract on a $29 product that should have lasted ten years with gentle use? I don't think so.
My mistake was not taking the advice of others and passing on this unit. I won't make that mistake again, and advise others to do the same.
My first one lasted several years and when I lost it, I immediately replaced it because I really liked the ergonomics and the fact that the wires are neatly stored inside and don't tangle up in your toolbox. This one died after a year or so: erratic readings on voltage DC and AC, while Ohm and mA are still fine. Replaced batteries and fuse, but that wasn't it. Despite the fact that my second died young, I am still going to buy a third: there is no alternative with the same features in the market.
Ohm meter shorted internally, unreliable volt readings, low quality control.
VERY EASY TO USE. GO FROM HOUSE, TO CAR, AND BACK TO THE HOUSE. NEVER HAVE TO GUESS WHAT SETTING TO DIAL IN ON A MULTIMETER FOR DIFFERENT PROJECTS.

This is a good multimeter, I use it to test batteries, outlets, etc. It's very compact, rugged, reliable. It did stop working for me after a few months, however, the reason was very simple - blown fuse. A trip to local hardware store fixed the issue (if it happens to you - you need 1 500mAH 250volt fuse - about $1 per. Fuse is in in the battery compartment). One thing I do not like is short prongs that are too short to reach reliably in some of my older outlets. Otherwise a good product. Also, wish it used a AAA bettry instead of 3 lithium. They last forever, but expensive to replace. However, if you are a weekend warrior who needs a very simple to use multimeter - this one is an excellent choice.

The compact size is great, but it takes forever to get the test leads wound up and the cover closed when you're done with it. Also, replacement batteries cost half of what the entire unit costs (at least from RS).
I use it to perform on-the-fly repairs on the job. It keeps me from having to walk back and forth to get my tool box while I'm in the plant. I like the fact that it has a hard case. It will survive in my pocket. The snap mechanism for the cover is a problem. Also, I want one with a schematic so I can fix it myself when it breaks down (like it just did).

I have had this for several years and everytime I try to use it, the device provides inconsistant readings and I have to get my old reliable multimeter out. I bought this for its compact size and functionality, but it has never truely worked.
A fantastic pocket-sized multimeter for everyday use. Really hard to beat in terms of value and compact-ness.

Not bad for a cheap small size meter. I purchased a unit, after a month of never using it, and when I finally needed it, the DC would not detect voltage, I exchanged it for another unit. This one seems to work so far. There is a smaller one RadioShack had, I can not find it. This one will do the job for now. This is not the big electrician Fluke; this is a simple meter, great for those who test smaller circuits, DC, electronics, thou I would like to see the extensions for the leads, which are smaller lead tips? I will search for those some day...
A simple small multimeter, WAS great for occasional use. Just "died" after just over 1 year of very light usage- only has a 90 day warranty.
So compact. So cute. Fits in your shirt nicely. So tiny..and handy too.
I beleave this is the 3rd version of this meter. The case hinges are good but the latch is not substantial enough. The place to wind up the cable in the lid of version 1 and 2 is for superior, and they only took 2 batteries. The auto shutoff is a real money saver. I wish I could find another version 2 meter, don,t like the yellow colour either, shows too much dirt. Has been a very handy meter for all service calls and at 2nd hand stores

A little more than I would have liked to spend but it works great for a pocket multimeter.

The meter's size is convenient but that's about it. It feels like the test leads are very fragile and may easily rip off.
Great little multimeter. Read the 1 page quick start and you're good to go. Easy to use, accurate, easy to store.

I've been using digital multimeters all my life, yet I can't seem to figure this one out. I have tried two different units and both are awful.
