I installed these and use the little bulb you can get for them in addition to existing 12 volt incandescent auto stop lamps in an off grid cottage to be used as night lights when bright light wasn't needed or desired but some light was helpful. Used this way they are safer than candles but give about the same amount of light so they can be very charming. I placed them in stratigic spots so that tripping can be avoided and many were used as part of the original lamp base with the brighter light so the two were handy to choose from. Being able to find the brighter light when desired is a big help. I modified the existing lamp with these tiny lamp holders by using JB weld epoxy to cover the exposed parts and hold them firmly. Some of them I used switches and others I just twist on and off. The only problem with these could be thinking they are just switches by mistake! .75 amps is a great saving for a battery dependent situation. While still being incandescent they seem very cost effective and being able to replace them by just twisting is perhaps the best feature. To conserve even more electricity I'm experimenting with LED types but so far the light made by LED's isn't really nearly so pleasant.
The description says "vertical", but if you turn it sideways it works just as happily being horizontal. The tab with the mounting hole bends easily enough with a pair of pliers, so they work diagonally, too. The solder tabs are difficult to break, and work just fine. While not the most refined-looking lamp holders available, their bare-bones appearance looks cool in certain places. Overall, these are very serviceable lamp holders that work well.
