I use this project for a wii project because the wiimote is an infrared camera.

Light up that license plate so it can be seen very brightly!

I have a webcam that uses standard LED's to illuminate the subject during low light conditions. I wanted to simply replace the standard LED's with these "high output" infared LEDs to create a night vision effect. Although the infared LED's did work, you had to get within 3 inches of them in order for the camera to pick up the infared illumination. The camera DOES pick up infared light and was confirmed by pointing a remote controller to the lens while pushing buttons. Either these infared LED's don't have enough output, or the camera I'm using them on isn't "infared sensitive" enough to pickup all of what's being output from the LED's. Either way, if you're attempting what I am, do some research on cameras first (especially yours) to find out if some cameras are more sensitive to infrared light than others and if yours will work. Otherwise, seek out different infrared LED's.

This works great as a range finder IR source when coupled with a 38khz IR reciever module. Mine are hooked to a Basic Stamp 2 project and work great !

works great for non-responsive remotes (like the new DVDRs, ATSC boxes).

I work in a plant pathology lab where plantlettes are grown under artifical grow-lights. Some varieties develop Callus due to lack of IR light. These LED's are powerful enough to reverse the effect.
