It really is a worthless piece of junk.

These connectors are junk. The photo online represents a connector that appears workable. The one that you actually get in the store is:
Flimsy - barrel broke in my hand while tring to unscrew it.
Too tight to admit the wires on the power supply - I had to drill out the second one. Good that there are two in the package.
No way to clamp the cable to accomplish some strain relief - I'm confident that it will fail shortly. The barrel is so much smaller than in the photo. There is no space inside to bend the tabs around the insulation of the cable.
It sure looks like it has the potential to short and blow the power supply on top of everything else.

Tried three of these, all worthless. Will not hold together. Waste of time.
Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):
Apparently RS's buyers have never used their product - in their rush to buy from China, they foisted this junk upon us. (Not that China is the problem, RS just chose to buy the worst that China has to offer.)
Like the other posters, the terminal post broke off, then the plastic barrel fractured, and I was back to square one.
Don't waste your time...go to digikey and get CA-2186 - a complete six foot 18 AWG cable assembly, all for less than the RS two-pack. Pick up some heat shrink tubing while you're there, as I understand Radio Shack's is junk also. Now I've got a longer power cord for my laptop...after struggling with the RS product.

Can I rate it zero stars?
I made the mistake of buying this connector before I read the other comments. The center terminal BROKE OFF when I touched the soldering iron to it, as if it had been subjected to metal fatigue. There's two in the overpriced package - so I used the second one (but how long until its terminal fails in the field?) Then the plastic barrel cover split in two when I attempted to screw it together. A complete waste of time and money.
Note that a certain mail-order firm sells a complete wire assembly for about two dollars, with a 6 foot pigtail and either a straight or right-angle overmolded plug. Note to Radio Shack: Please don't delete this - help your customers find a workable solution. You've already stolen enough money from your customers who bought this product from you.

If Radio Shack is going to sell us [$]parts then at least they could get some decent product, lets say, pay [$]instead. I buy power plugs all the time way cheaper than then these cost and they are 10 times better. I was in a pinch, and thought what the heck, I am a pro, I can solder this, which I did, not a problem, problem is that covers is so flimsy that it broke tightening it down, then because of the confine quarters in the narrow body, the conductors shorted out. Ok, I had two, so I used heat shrink and made another. Terminals broke of.This is totally useless as a power connector, so I pose the question, what is it good for?

The power connector on my daughters Dell laptop failed the day before she was supposed to return to college. No problem... I'll buy one of these at Radio Shack, solder it in and be done with it.
The good news is that stores do stock this item so I was able to get one right away. The bad news is that this is an absolutely horrible connector.
Background - I was in the military (Navy) many years ago and during that time I attended what was referred to as "2M school" which is Miniature-MicroMiniature repair. I spent a 4 weeks learning how to solder and repair just about any electronic part or circuit board out there.
This connector is somewhat of a joke. The laptop power cord is fairly thin and it barely makes it into the back of the connector. It's not deep enough or large enough for what it should do.
I can still solder very well and the plastic melts almost instantly. There is about a 1/16" gap on the plug itself between the inner plug and the outer plug. If you bend the leads at all while assembling this it will basically short out.
I was finally able to solder the new connector onto the laptop power cord but this connector made it anything but easy. Some (many) of the other connectors that I've bought at Radio Shack have been decent quality and easy to work with. This is not one of them.

What a piece of Junk! Solder lugs too thin, can't even accommodate a thin piece of 22 gage zip cord! Plastic sleve broke on both units in package. Radio Shack- don't waste my time with junk - either offer good stuff or don't offer it at all. Worthless!
Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):
This is the lowest quality DC power plug I have ever used. All of the previous statements on its short comings apply. I was able to make it function correctly with some extra heat shrink tube. However due to the quality the second one in the pack will serve as a warning to all who pass by my wall of shame that RadioShack no longer sells the quality. They once did they used to be good but not any more.

Apparently skill with a soldering iron is a lost art. If you use the proper temperature, this piece works as well as any other.
Besides, what is better. Take your time and repair a power supply for $3 or try to order a replacement (hehehe), if you can.
Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):
The plug insulation is too thin, can't solder without menting almost to point of useless
Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):
the housing was too small to admit the wires for connection. The connection points were very flimsy.I gave up and found a prewired connector and spliced the wires.

Worthless!!!This plug is about the sorriest excuse for a connector I've ever seen in thirty years in electronics! I needed it to prototype a new instrument for my business, and ran out to [...] to get it. Once in hand, I found that the terminals would not take solder, they were flimsy and thin, and one broke off while attaching leads. The cap was flimsy, and refused to screw on- no problem, as it easily pressed on- AFTER enlarging its cable hole! Then I found that forcing the poorly-tinned terminals to solder had melted its insulation, shorting the contacts! There is no way on Earth this will be used in my industrial instrument! It guarentees failure, and dissatisfaction by my customers.I have found a proper connector elsewhere that is now on my BOM- for a fraction of the price.I cannot recommend this part for anything but the rubbish bin.
Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):
The hole to feed the adapter wire through the shaft is small and my wire just barely squeezed in. Previous poster is right in that it is close quarters between the solder points. You need steady hands to keep the wires separate. There are two in the pack in case you mess up the first one. Enjoy...
Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):
This plug and the similar sizes are best for power supplies that use very thin wires. Both leads on my laptop cord were too thick to go through the solder holes until I trimmed quite a few strands of wire. There is not an extra millimeter of room inside the cap, so make sure your soldering work is nearly flat. If you twist the wires they will probably be too thick to go inside the cover. Because the working quarters are so close you will need a fine tip on your soldering iron and no more than 25 or 30 watts. The plug is a nice small size, but very tedious to install. If you get it right on your first try you should consider switching to a career in neuro-surgery. Good thing there's two plugs in the pack!
