Though a decent quality item, a simple web search will reveal a ton of other places that sell them for a fraction of this price. Shame on RS!!, they obviously recognize these are popular because lots of people are playing audio on their phones nowadays and have chosen to gouge their customers!
I bought two 2.5 to 3.5 adapters to play music off of my LG Chocolate 8550. Both adapters only output right channel audio. I would not recommend this product as I have used three of them now (borrowed a friend's also) and none have worked properly.
It does the job, but construction quality is only so-so. Definitely isn't worth what I paid.
Tried several other adapters, all of them gave mono sound (same signal in both ears). This is the only one that we found that works with the Samsung Juke to give stereo sound. The only (minor) drawback is that there is no microphone, so you have to disconnect the headphones to make or receive a call.
Adapter works great with my Verizon LG Chocolate Phone
I bought a LG Voyager phone with the MP3 player built into it. The jack is the smaller 2.5mm size and the regular headphones are 3.5mm (1/8") size. Also the smaller size has 4 channels or bands and the headphones have 3 channels or bands. This adapter works perfectly with this phone and my headphones. Both ends fit tight in the connections. I wish the end that fits into the phone was a 90 degree angle. That is why I only gave it a 4 out of 5 rating.
This adapter connects only three of the four 3.5mm contacts to the 2.5mm connector. Those that are connected are not mapped to their equivalent positions on the 2.5mm connector. Labeling the 3.5mm contacts from the tip as ABCD, the mapping (3.5mm ==> 2.5mm) == (ABCD, xBAD) where x is not connected. Do not use for applications that require a one-to-one mapped 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter.
This adapter functions with my i880, which requires the 4-conductor 2.5mm (3/32") headphone plug. The store clerk let me try the standard 1/8" to 3/32" stereo (3-conductor) adapter in my phone and it didn't work. Then we tried this adapter and it worked fine.I appreciate the tolerance and assistance of the store associate but...Holey cr@p! [$] for an audio adapter plug?As far as the reviewers who comment it doesn't work:IT WASN'T MADE FOR YOUR PHONE'S TYPE OF CONNECTION. DON'T BLAME THE ADAPTER FOR YOUR MISAPPLICATION.
Product works for the LG Voyager. Can hear sound from both sides unlike some mono converters. Great quality and good price.
It can be expensive to use a cell phone as an MP3 player: microSD card, usb adapter, headphone adapter.
I tried a standard 2.5 to 3.5mm adapter (2 of them actually) and all I got was one ear of sound. This one works with my new Motorola W755 - the store clerk was kind enough to let me try it first. It's just the right length so you don't end up with too much cable when attaching your favorite earbuds. Strange that no one at Verizon or Motorola was aware that I needed this type of adapter - 4 pole instead of 3 pole.
Didnt work for Treo 750
I have a mogul 6800 by Sprint.
This is my second adapter. I purchased one originally with some other adapters and thought this was the cause of my issue. It was something else.
I then purchased another adapter which only works on one side of the car. Although it looks better, this works and gives you a longer extension to use phone. I use my phone for GPS, mp3, everything and I can hear all sounds from phone on car speakers including text message noises, etc.
One issue I used to have is when someone calls, even if I use my bluetooth, the sound automatically goes into car speakers but I think this is because of the previous adapter I used. Back when I originally had this adapter, the phone call would fully switch to bluetooth (input and output). I believe I will get same results again.
Item does not work with Palm Centro (Sprint) and standard stereo headphones.
Works great but most Radio Shack stores do not stock the item or don't have a clue what it is. Because the size is small, this is an easy item to loose. And when I try to replace it, they don't have one.
If you find one, buy two.
This product does work with the LG Venus, but you have to make sure to push it in pretty good to get both channels, and for some reason moving the cable around a lot makes it cut in and out between one and two channels.
Mostly bought because I don't want to wait online for something. Price is a sham. But oh well.

Just tested this out with my Centro. Only outputs on one side.
Plugged it in and i was ready to go.

Let me clear up some mystery. If your phone is meant to take PLAIN OLD HEADPHONES, and use only bluetooth for hands-free talking, this WON'T WORK. You need a standard stereo 1/8"(3.5mm) to 3/32"(2.5mm) adapter- RS part number 274-373.
This is designed for music phones that will ALSO take a hands free WIRED ear-piece. It has 3 conductors (4 including the ground) for left ear, right ear, and mic. If your phone's jack doesn't HAVE the mic conductor, go with a standard adapter. Hope this helps someone!
Compare carefully 2.5mm connector from your headphones / which came with phone and this adapter 2.5mm connector before buying, and make sure they are the same

I attempted to use this product to connect an LG8350 cell phone to Panasonic RP-HC500 headphones. No, zero, nada, sound came through. The phone works fine with a Jabra handsfree stereo earpiece plugged in. The Panasonic headphones work fine into a wide variety of devices. The sales person did mention that they have had problems with the adapter but "thought" it would work fine with an LG phone. It doesn't. Radio Shack should pull this product and slap their supplier's hand.
Just bought this, works great in Sprint Moto Q9c. Sounds very good!
I showed my device to the sales clerk and asked for a compatable adapter. He sold me this one, which did not work at all on my Blackberry 8830 when I got it home and tried it.
If I dont put it in my pocket just the right way, something comes apart and the signal doesnt work. And it is way too expensive for what it is. Buy something like this from somewhere else.
Works great with the LG Musiq. Just make sure it is compatible with your phone before you buy it. The length, though short, is perfect. When you combine the nearly 3 foot long adapter supplied with the phone with the nearly 5 feet of headphone cable you end up with a rather cumbersome combination.
A fine adapter, sounded great on my car stereo or headphones. But a bit shocked at the price.
We needed a simple connection to go from a cell phone to an amplifier with the mic connection "not used". This connector is not for a non-music playing phone.[@]

Looking at the pinout for both standard TRS 3.5mm jacks (L, R, gnd), and for Motorola RAZR 2.5mm (mic, R, L, gnd), it explains why pulling out a couple mm can get you from 1 channel to 2. Using other jacks, you can get the channels reversed. I don't think the contacts inside are positioned right (on the 3.5mm side), but I don't have the tools on-hand to look into it properly.
If your phone has stereo in it's 2.5mm jack, you will get two channels. Check and make sure your phone has a stereo jack before you buy. If not, buy a mono jack and it will work on both ears/sides. I confirm that this works on the Sprint/Nextel IC902.
Works great with the Samsung i-760 phone, now I can ditch the ipod. Now I can use my new phone with my car stereo.
not recommended for treo 750. only 1 channel works
XDA-neo smartphone does not work properly, When inserted fully, I get only one channel. If I pull it out about 1mm, I get both channels - with poor sound.too bad that this was the first adapter of this kind I've found
Works Great. Be sure to look for it in the celluar headphone section. Me and the guy that worked there had a hard time finding it lol. I can also confirm that it works for the LG 9900 aka Env
If it is compatible with your phone, it may be a great product. It apparently isn't compatible with any Blackberry phones though. I wish they would list the compatible phones on the packaging or in the on-line description.[...]
Only get one channel on a Samsung Gleam. Found an adapter that works w/ my Gleam on [...] for less than half the price of this RS adapter.
Palm Treo 700wx does not work properly, When inserted fully, I get only one channel. If I pull it out about 1mm, I get both channels - with poor sound. Just like the other reweiw of HP iPAQ.
Does not work properly with my HP iPAQ. When inserted fully, I get only one channel. If I pull it out about 1mm, I get both channels - in mono, I think.
Works very well with my Sprint Moto Q. Now I can listen to streaming music through my car stereo and at work. Also good sound when using ear buds.
I use it at work all the time.
The male end of this adapter is too "short" -- compared to LG supplied stereo headset, it's clear it's too short
This did not work with my Treo 700p.
Works great with my LG VX8550 New Chocolate. 4-pole means it supports Left/Right/Mic channels, so you retain stereo sound for your music. You can find these adapters cheaper online, but after shipping it's usually only a couple dollars, and this can be bought in-store if you need it right away.
Mine stopped working. I may have bent it too far but it's a cable it should be bendable. Now the signal comes inand out. I'm going to take mine back and see if they'll exchange.
Does not work with Blackberry Pearl 8100.
Great product! I had no way to play my music in my car thanks to my cellular provider being "out-of-stock" for 2 weeks on the item I need from them. My cord worked great with my Samsung U740, with no problems at all with the connection as reported in some of the other reviews. I jammed out the whole way home. Thanks RS!
worked in my LG CU 500 just fine, this has 4 poles and works great in stereo, the other more common adapter with 3 poles only worked in stereo if pulled slightly out and were very problematic to keep in position, the 4 pole, just plug in and rock on through any 3.5 mm interface you want, car or home stereo, portable speakers, etc.

Does not work with the Blackberry 8830.
Works great for stereo output on a PPC6700. Tested with both Sennheiser headphones and my car's AUX input; sound quality is spot on.
WOW!! Finally one that fits both the phone and the headset.
Was sold this product as compatible with my LG VX8300 phone. Had to slide it out slightly to work. Called LG. They said the jack will not play stereo sound out. Don't buy this if you've got an LG VX8300. You'll be out of luck.
This does not work with my Cingular 2125 / HTC Farady phone. If I slide the headset 1/8" jack in and out of the cable, the right and left earpieces in the headset play individually, but I can't get both earpieces to play at the same time. Verified that the headset works correctly with my iPod.
Did not work with my T-Mobile (HTC) MDA phone. This adapter gives only right channel, left channel is blank. I guess it just a matter of connection and I wish RadioShack will bring correct one for MDA and similar smartphone.
relly great product! i wish it was more easy to figuer out, too many stores our out of thies! get more!!

The first one I have sounds horrible. I am using with a LG VX8300. I am awaiting a replacement as this is apparantly a hot item. Will update once I can test the new one.
This is what you need if you have any phone that you want to listen too with regular headphones or to use it with a fm transmitter or cassette adapter.
YEAAHH!!! I love that ist's on a cord, and the price is more than reasonable! Thank You RadioShack!!
finally an adpater for my blade phone. now i can play my music right from my phone into my car stereo.
