Comments about RadioShack Replacement Right-Angle 3/32" Stereo Headset Plug:

Appears to be a good product. The nose on right angle plug is long enough that the plug body does not come in contact with the device. This is important especially if the receptacle is counter sunk. This has been a problem with plugs I have purchased from other companies.

There is no strain relief as advertised on the package. That would have made the product a 5 star for me. A pin out for the connector would be nice to have but using a continuity tester easily solves this issue.

Have some of the other reviewers never heard of heat-shrink, and ohm meter, or the correct wattage soldering iron?
This plug works fine for me!

Is anyone at Radio Shack reading this stuff? How hard would it be to put up soldering instructions on the site? I can solder just fine, but I don't have a clue which wire goes to which terminal.

Comments about RadioShack Replacement Right-Angle 3/32" Stereo Headset Plug:

Wow. Where to start. This thing is so poorly designed.. First off, the solder "terminals" are just continuations of the pin cores, there's nowhere to actually wrap or insert a wire for a secure connection (except for the common ground, but that's another matter entirely). The plastic surrounding the terminals actually melted during soldering, showing it is not rated to be part of the solder terminal assembly. There is also no cable guide, so the wires impinge on the plastic case, leading to friction between the wire and the case, and ultimate failure of the unit. The common ground terminal does have a hole for the wire, but once solder is applied, the terminal is actually wider than the cut-out provided in the case, meaning the terminal must be bent to fit, leading to a weakening of the entire assembly. The 'strain relief' is another lie. It's the standard crimp/ squeeze connector, but that's it - no cable wrap, so the wires will pull out easily given enough tension. The wire outlet does not provide enough room for the insulation of the cable, leading to a weak joint at the worst possible location.Overall, this is a [$] piece of inadequate junk. I would have had better luck cannibalising an old pair of headphones with a molded plug.Lack of a pin-out diagram is quite frankly the least of this product's problems.

I read how most people were complaining about not having a pin out on this connector and needing a continuity checker. While I have a continuity checker, it was not needed. the pinout was obvious to me. a simple bit of logic is all it takes.

Appears to be a solid product. But regardless it's totally worthless to do-it-yourselfer's without instructions indentifying the soldering points.

Comments about RadioShack Replacement Right-Angle 3/32" Stereo Headset Plug:

The gold coating makes soldering fast and easy, and provides good contact quality. A strain relief would have made this good connector even better.

I have to agree with my partner in Canada, how can you rate something you can even use, because you don't have instructions in order to use it. Edited by moderator.

By Bruce F from Toronto Canada on 6/10/2006
Pros:
Good Value

Comments about RadioShack Replacement Right-Angle 3/32" Stereo Headset Plug:

Ahh...am I missing something here? You would think a do-it-yourself solder-type part would have a diagram to show which solder point connects to each of the 3 pin segments. There is nothing on the package or on the Radio Shack website to help use this product. It is difficult to review a product you can't use.
