Comments about RadioShack® Electronic and Hobby Soldering Kit:

I was starting to really like this soldering iron until I was half way through repairing a circuit board. It suddenly stopped heating. I tried to exchange it at the store but they said the warranty was only 30 days. I thought I should be able to get a lot more than two uses out of it.

Bought this because it had the blade attachment, used it one time to cut some thin plastic and the shaft bent. Vey cheap product.

Comments about RadioShack® Electronic and Hobby Soldering Kit:

I needed a smaller soldering iron to reflow solder for some resistors on a PCB, and found this model in store for only [$] +came with many tip options! It worked great for the job; able to repair the clock from my Honda for a cost savings of $75-200.Only con I noticed is that the tips can be a bit finicky. If you don't wiggle them a bit while tightening, they may bind slightly and become loose, causing a bit of a wiggle. Bit of dry graphite on the threads took care of the issue.

Comments about RadioShack® Electronic and Hobby Soldering Kit:

I purchased one of these since I couldn't find a smaller tip locally that would fit my Weller SP23. I managed to tin the tip but the element burned out before I could solder anything. The heating wire inside was melted near the handle. I exchanged that for a second one that lasted just long enough to solder a couple of test joints before suffering the same fate as the first. I think I'll just return this and order a different tip for my Weller online.

I've used my soldering iron for quite a few electronics projects now and it is holding up great. I've abused it a bit trying to change tips, and the tip wobbles a bit, but it still works fine, without having to tighten it or mess with it at all. I forgot and left in on for 2 days and thought that I surely would have burned out the element, but I've used it quite a bit since then, no problems. Fastest heating element of any soldering iron I've had. I wish replacement tips were cheaper though.

I use this more than my expensive irons because it has a great needle-point tip for SMD work and it is smaller in the hand so easier to work with. Normal soldering irons are too bulky for small SMD work. The longer the wand the harder it is to control your jitter at the tip.

I bought this product to solder up small projects. It works great for me so far for something sold at a low price; haven't had any problems so far. I don't really use the other hobby tips that came with it, but I'm keeping them just in case i need them some wear in the future. Thanks Radioshack!
