I connected a Sure SM 57 to my machine (win8 DeskTop), and immediately the machine recognized the mic and I was up and running. But this little device will allow you to get rid of your mixing table and your dozen cabLes and chords that you usually need to set up a home studio with your pc. Comments about RadioShack® XLR to Mini USB Microphone Adapter: Plugged into my mac and garageband recognized it as a new usb audio device and worked perfectly fine! Comments about RadioShack® XLR to Mini USB Microphone Adapter: Windows 7 picked up the mic as soon as I inserted the USB plug. I did have to go into the control panel and find the mic under audio recording devices and raise the volume from 50% to 100%. After that it worked as advertised. It does not supply phantom power for condenser mics (USB only provides 5volts not the 48 volts required for phantom power). It will still work with a condenser as long as you have an external phantom power unit. Comments about RadioShack® XLR to Mini USB Microphone Adapter: I needed an interface to my Mac/Garage Band. MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8 2.4 GHz 4GB. Garage Band 6.0.4. Garage Band instantly recognized the input. Works great with my SM-58 for vocals and direct box. Get or use your mic cable as extension. However with the one I bought, it would barley pass audio. With all volume settings in windows set to max, you could just barley hear anything. The compression is spot on at eliminating background noise and keeping sudden loud noises at a decent level with a quick response time.Good value for the money!
