OK so here is the skinny, if everyone would take a moment to research these new scanners its no s secret that you need a cable AND software to program a scanner to be used with a trunked system.
Some trunked systems are quite easy some are more complicated.... scanner enthusiests have always parteken in this type of thing as a hobby.... if your not doing this as a hobby your not going to have any fun, the first time you get it to work properly with the trunked system in your area will make all the fiddleing and time consumeing "LEARNING" you had to do worth it.
if you just want to plug it in enter a few frequencies and listen...welll go back in time 15 yrs or so.

I had already downloaded the software from radioreference so all I had to was install the usb driver before I plugged the usb cable in. It was easy to import the frequencies from radioreference webservice directly into the arc software designated banks and then hit "send" and everything installed right into my scanner perfectly.

•Things that aren't so great about it. it is not user friendly.does not explaine how to use the program & or cable.needs to be MORE USER- FRIENDLY.when you buy the cable kit, you have to then BUY the program after 7day free trile. i was under the impression when you bought the cable kit you bought what you needed. It's a BOUGAS deal.

If you have a more current Mac with an Intel chipset then you will be able to run Parallel to run your windows software. There is a setting to find out what com port it is using. For deatails on that go to Radio Ref forums. The price could be a bit lower but RS is out to make a buck thats their bottom line!

I purchased this item from the store. When I got it home and tried to download it to my Mac desktop I quickly discovered it wasn't compatible with my computer. I returned the cable to Radio Shack. They don't make a cable compatible with the Apple Mac computer

Great product and there is great free software on the disc that makes programming a breeze.

Radio Shack stated that this cable should be ordedred with the Pro-107 scanner, it will not work with the Pro-107, fortunatly I have a Pro-164 that it works perfectly with. Running Windows7,Idid not need to install the driver, Windows 7, picked it up & installed the needed drivers, works perfectly everytime, I also purchased the proper cable for the Pro-107, Win 7 also installed the driver for it, also works perfectly every time.
