It's the best way right now with today's technology; say, suppose you own one of those VHS to DVD-R units - and this is the way to go about it. Although the downloadable user's guide gives no information about this. Problem, these days is equipment manufacturers of all that digital equipment include no 'manual record' option. This will fix that: OUT-2 to DVD-R/VCR passthru and back into IN-5, and you've got it. Versatility.

This unit has a nice concept of auto sensing the input but the design is flawed. It looses lock if the video sync signal becomes unstable such as with a video tape with some noise in it. If you switch to manual mode it will stay locked but then you loose the auto functionality and that switching can be obtained with a passive A/V switch. If your going to use this unit you need to make sure your video signal is rock solid.

had purchased 4-way selector with remote control from [@] for $50. Didnt feel comfortable w/ price for old technology, googled and found this one. Only selector I've found that has 5-way input. Only owned for a week, so far it works as intended. Currently have 64, GameCube, Wii, and 360 connected to it with no problems auto switching between any of them. Dislike that it requires power to operate, but see the necessity for auto-sensing. Saw the low reviews before purchasing in store, so asked sales associate if he knew of any issues with product and he denied. Would highly recommed so far, hopefully issues do not arise later

Poor build quality leaves a bad taste in my mouth with Radio Shack. I had an older Radio Shack switch that finally burned out after 6 years and(rushing to the store) expected the same quality when I couldn't find the same model I had. This is a poor excuse for a replacement. Constantly loses signal no matter which port you're using, finds it after three seconds or so. Returning the product today and finding a better brand with better reviews than this sorry piece of equipment.
If I could rate 0 stars I would as this is just an unacceptable, unusable product.

bought this to run multiple game systems on a flat screen, the auto feature went out after a few months but the manuel works fine

Auto switch will work intermittently. Will not stay on VCR for example. Manual switch does NOT work. Still will run on automatic even when switch on manual. Therefore I can NOT override the problem.
