I bought this converter over 20 years ago used it in Israel, Jordan, Iran, Europe and now in China. It has never failed to charge my electric tooth brush or other small appliance. Certainly was a bargain and now my daughter in law who travels extensively just ordered one.

This device and others of the same design, but different voltages, will not fit mainland European outlets. Also does not convert 50Hz to 60Hz (but it says so up front). The prongs are of the right shape, but are not long enough to fit in to the recessed design of the outlet. You're basically trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. It only worked if I used the plug adapter (Model: 273-364|Catalog #273-364) for my laptop. Meaning I couldn't charge my laptop and run other devices at the same time. Luckily most small electonics these days will accept 110/220V and only need the outlet adapter.

This is not the same model number that I have but appears the same or very similar. Mine is the 273-1412 50 watt model for which the manual is still available on the Radio Shack website. I bought it several years ago but didn't try to use it until recently. Completely dead. I will try to exchange it shortly but am not optimistic since it has been some time ago that I bought it. If you buy it be sure to check it right away so that there is no question about it's functioning. I gave it two stars rather than none or one only because it may have been fixed since I purchased mine.
