There was a hurricane coming several years ago, and every store I went to was already sold out of D cells. I went to Radio Shack and they had these in stock, so I purchased 6 of them. We have two flashlights that take 3 D cells each. I had installed an LED bulb in each. They're expensive, but last a very long time. Since they draw very little curent, this battery is a perfect match. They don't seem to lose power over time, so they're great for everyday use, and are also great for power outages.

I use these batteries for many different items from radios to lamps. I solar charge them or use a PMG. As a professional in self reliance and training I find them to be good for every day use. It is true they are not hi capacity but are a good buy when on sale.

Radioshack is compromising quality for profit. A D battery is readily available for the same price with twice the capacity. This battery is a C battery in a D casing. While Radioshack does have a 9000 miliamp hour battery, it is priced twice as high as most others with similar or higher capacity. Buy elsewhere and get a better battery.

With rechargeables, it's all about the milliamp hours (mAh), and the bottom line was that for me, Radio Shack's rechargeable D batteries were a great value for the money.

There are cheaper rechargeable Ds available elsewhere and from instantly recognizable big-name battery companies, but frankly those are almost not even worth buying--they are only 2500-3000 mAh. That means they are basically just AA batteries in a D casing.

On the other hand, you can go to a battery specialty store and dish out the money for really high capacity rechargeable D batteries at 9000-11000 mAh (comparable to regular alkaline D batteries). They will last twice as long as these, but will cost you twice as much.

Radio Shack's Enercells are a great compromise between the two--at 5000 mAh, they have twice as much capacity as the average AA, and they cost half as much as the high-end rechargeable Ds. A while back I even ran some numbers on various brands and found that the Enercells give the best value in terms of mAh per dollar. So as long as you don't absolutely need expensive high capacity D's, these are a great all-purpose alternative.

I bought these batteries for my game cameras that use d cell and they are perfect. Twice the power of one other brand of rechargeable d size bought at another store. My cameras now work better and I don't have to buy akalines anymore. Also the power at 5000 mah is not too much for my brand of recharger. More power would be unnecessary.
