On September 24, 2008 Lance Armstrong announced that he would be coming out of his three-year retirement to compete once again in the Tour de France. Preceding this, he had become a seven-time record-setting Tour de France winner, all after having survived a near-fatal brush with testicular cancer.
Not only is Armstrong an exemplary representation of the resiliency of the human spirit, but his story is one of perseverance and triumph. After surviving cancer, Armstrong went on to found the LIVESTRONG Foundation, an organization committed to making the fight against cancer a global priority and supporting cancer survivors all over the world.
COMEBACK 2.0: Up Close and Personal includes an introduction written by Armstrong, in which he discusses his choice to return to competitive cycling, along with chronicle entries that follow him from his start with the Tour Down Under, through the Tour of California, to the shocking crash at the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon race in Spain where he broke his collar bone. All these events are caught in dramatic detail, leading up to his heroic return to the Tour de France.
Along with this chronicle of entries are numerous awe-inspiring photographs taken by acclaimed photojournalist/photographer Elizabeth Kreutz of the race stages along with some more personal, intimate shots taken behind the scenes.
