Comments about Midland® 5001 40-Channel CB Radio: I purchased one of these Midland C.B.'s and a antenna spring and a quick disconnect for my Firestik antenna that I purchased too. I mounted the antenna to the swing out spare tire carrier on my '96 Bronco and mounted the C.B. under the center of the dash. I use it primarely for trail use when camping but mostly when we are wheeling with multiple rigs in Lake Tahoe, CA on the Rubicon. It has always been clear and picked up signals easily, even when others in our group couldn't, but I don't use it for long distance. I read the review by "The Kid" which concerns me but as of yet haven't experienced any problems. The unit looks good, works great, and has enough features to satisfy the average user like myself....

Comments about Midland® 5001 40-Channel CB Radio: Bought one new. 4th CB at that point (first full sized). Spend a lot of time on the highway without cell service. Same exact radio as the Cobra 25 LTD except it is much lesser quality. Good receive quality and acceptable transmit. It would constantly jump to channel 9. After becoming quite tired of this I took it to a radio repairman (certified by Midland) and he tore it apart to look at it. It was actually a factory remanufactured unit. He did a little research and found out nearly all of the new ones are factory reman jobs. The problem, the logic channel IC's on the board would short out due to the board warping near the instant 9 switch and would cause it to randomly jump to 9. Would've either been a month for Midland to fix, or $80 for the repairman to fix. Ended up returning the radio and buying a peaked and tuned Cobra 25 LTD which has the same features for under $110. This was my second Midland, and my second disappointment. Never had a problem with my 2 Cobras or my 80's era Realistic (badged as Radio Shack).
