I am tired of throwing batteries away without knowing i they are really dead. So I decided to buy this battery meter. Result: I checked old 2 AA Alkaline batteries and 2 AA Lithium batteries, they all show that they are done. Ok, I figured that. For comparison I checked 2 brandnew AA Alkalines and 2 brandnew AA Lithiums, and they show the same result. I also checked abrandnew AAA Lithium and a brandnew AAA Alkaline, both show dead as well. I might have gotten a faulty meter, so I will check with the store, but I don't trust this one.

I bought this so I would know if a battery is any good before throwing it out. The photo battery-3 V. tested good, but I couldn't use it in my camera, so the battery tester didn't help at all.

I had to replace the black lead. I did not feel like driving 20 miles just to take it back. I had an old meter that I used to get a replacemnet lead.

I've used one of these for a LONG time in one incarnation or another. I was a former RS employee for 15 years and these are the only battery testers I'd use and trust. They do load the battery properly for a good test and can test all sorts of batteries. I like to test button cells on these, especially the backup lithium batteries from computers. Yes, the backup batteries do go bad after a while and this is the perfect meter to test them with. The price is very resonable, it's accurate...and no, I don't work for RS anymore. :-)

If you don't want to use both test leads, you can hold the NEGATIVE side of a battery against the round terminal of the BUTTON CELL checker and touch the RED LEAD to the POSITIVE side of the battery.

I like this tester. I needed one that could test button cells and it does the job fine. Only issue is that I'm not sure its actually possible to get the testing leads back into their little storage compartment, but no big deal for me really.

When purchasing a "battery checker" I expected one that would both measure available voltage as well as place a load test on the battery. As near as I can tell, this one measures only voltage, which can be done easily with a voltage meter. The description of this item should say precisely what it does and not leave it open to interpretation.

unit worth the price/does all you might need for a home or small shop/dont like that test leads tuck into a small compartment built into the unit.puts alot of stress on the test leads im sure will shorten their life/ok though for occasional use. their older model was better constructed.

This seems to work well. I bought it to replace an older (still functional) Radio Shack tester because I'm now using a lot of NiMH rechargeable batteries. This one tests them. The big negative: The old tester had a contact on the body; you place the negative battery terminal on the contact and hold the positive lead to the positive terminal. Easy. This one has no such contact, so you must juggle two leads and a cylindrical battery that wants to roll around on the table.
