    Comments about RadioShack® High-Gain HDTV-FM Signal Amplifier:

If it doesn't work there are 4 reasons:
It's broken out of the box. Hey, stuff happens.
Buyer has no idea what he/she is doing.
Signal is non-existent to begin with. Check your antenna and cables.
Signal is so strong that an amp won't improve it.

The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is because I have no idea how long the unit will last.

      Comments about RadioShack® High-Gain HDTV-FM Signal Amplifier:

If you are closer than 20 miles to a TV transmitting tower, probably too much boost---which can cause problems. Over 20 miles (like me), it's superb. With the two output amp., it's great because it eliminates the need for a splitter if you have two cable runs (great feature). Signal boost for cable runs is nice too--but again---too much is not good, need to work at it to get it just right.

            Comments about RadioShack® High-Gain HDTV-FM Signal Amplifier:

I read all reviews and am always skeptical of negative reviews. Well after many hours of installing an outdoor antenna, running coax to multiple rooms, I was ready to check out the reception. Nothing! I then had to back track and troubleshoot all my connections, only to ultimately find out the amplifier had just stopped working (red light was out). When I finally bypassed the mast component, and installed an old amplifier I had as backup, I had great signal.
Needless to say, returning this tomorrow...

                Comments about RadioShack® High-Gain HDTV-FM Signal Amplifier:

I bought one of these several years ago, it didn't last 6months. Then I found a Channel Master with much lower noise figure for the about the same price as this one that I've been using for 4years with no problems.
Bottom line, there is nothing great about this product in spite of high gain claim which is questionable, doesn't do much to improve DTV reception when the noise figure is 5+dB. When shopping for a mast mount preamp look for the lowest noise figure possible, ideal NF would 2.0dB or lower. Lastly stick with well known MFG's like Channel Master, and a few others that really know their stuff when it comes to improving TV reception.

                  Comments about RadioShack® High-Gain HDTV-FM Signal Amplifier:

OK, so here's the 'scoop' on this great device:

The outside unit amps 23dB, with the inside unit's (which powers the outside unit) gain controller adjusting this by 10dB (ie you get 13-23dB from outside amp), and meanwhile the inside switch amping another 10dB (total max is 33dB per specs...).

HOWEVER, 33dB will overload the system (causes the signal boost to almost completly drop to nothing - becomes a signal nullifier!) - so, unless you're dealing with a signal so weak as to be almost immeasurable, leave the inside switch OFF!!! Also, adjust the gain knob to lowest gain for most applications with a slight adjustment for higher gain up to the point of system overload, then back off a notch.

THEN, you will have the BEST signal amplification possible barring none others.

I'm using an outside yagi antenna on a mast atop my motor home, pointed toward the weakest station I want to get (ie pointed toward the big city with all the broadcasters...), using this 15-321 amp to 'finish the job' of getting the station... the rest of the stations come in 'off the side' of the yagi.

PS - I am an FCC licensed Extra Class Amateur Radio (HAM radio) operator (ie expert in frequency propagation...).

PPS - I'm also ecstatic about this device!!!!!!!

                  Thanks RADIO SHACK ;-)

I use this on my outside antenna work great.Yes it takes some time to zone in antenna. Also takes a little common sense. All these bad reviews are from people who don't know what they are doing.this is not for rabbit ears or any kind of indoor antenna.there is a old saying nothing is free you will have to spend the money on a good outside antenna to get the benefits of this booster.A rota-tor would also help all in all this is a great product.
