We were having trouble getting our favorite radio stations because of reception. My husband found this antenna on the Radioshack website. We attached it to a beam in our attic and now we get great reception. We couldn't be happier.

Comments about Antennacraft FMSS Omnidirectional FM Antenna:

I installed this at my last house primarily to receive a particular station transmitting from 30 miles away in mid-town Manhattan, at the very bottom of the FM band, along with whatever stations other family members might want. I mounted it on a single 10 ft mast section from the highest gable end, totalling about 30 ft above the ground. The station's 60dBu contour map line (start of 'fringe' reception) coincidentally passes right through the middle of that house, per the station's published coverage map. No amplifier was used, and with an RG-6 coax run of less than 100 ft and no splitters, there was no reason to use one, and many reasons not to. The signal strength meter on the tuner showed very strong under most weather conditions, which is great for a turnstile omni at 30 miles out. The only reasonable way to improve on it would have been to use either a single vertical dipole omni (with 0dBi gain, at 2 to 4 times the cost), or a directional outdoor FM antenna (with positive gain, at the expense of reception from the sides and rear), which Radio Shack used to sell but unfortunately no longer does. I was hoping for the best, but expecting mediocre reception from that style omni so far away from the transmitter. The result was a very pleasant surprise. It's a good omni for the price, and I would buy it again should the need arise. But do be aware that it's a turnstile omni, and it does what it's intended to do for the price paid, but if the goal is reception of distant stations and/or in difficult situations, like multipath problems, then a directional antenna is probably called for. I got lucky in that it worked extremely well where a directional antenna would normally be used. Also, even though it's called an omni, it's really not quite , as the pattern is more like a figure 8 - if a desired station is a bit weak, try rotating the antenna, as the strongest and weakest reception directions can have significant gain differences and noticeable results with marginal signals. But it's a great antenna for the price, and the next major step up from a folded dipole nailed to a wall.

Comments about Antennacraft FMSS Omnidirectional FM Antenna:

Before I bought this I read the reviews and was a little worried. I installed it in less than 10 minutes and it works great. I could only get 3 stations before (2 with static) and now I get over 15 stations that come in clear.

Comments about Antennacraft FMSS Omnidirectional FM Antenna:

The Problem: I live in a small town with a single radio station. Reception is OK. Unable to get any other FM stations. Would like alternatives when there is local programming that I don't want to listen to.
The desired goal: Antenna to improve reception such that I can pull in two more stations from 40 & 60 miles away respectively.
The install: Hung the antenna inside the attic. Ran coax to the basement. Split it to two stereos in the house.
The result: I now pick up on the order of about 8-10 stations really good. One of the really clear stations is about 85 miles. Desired goal extremely exceeded. Highly recommended solution.

FM radio stations 40 miles north and 40 miles south. At initial setup my favorite station had some static. I switch the polarity (swap wires) and it is clear as a bell now. I can get all my favorites from the North & South as well. Great small investment. Still awesome after 12 years in my attic.
