Comments about Antennacraft MXU59 UHF Antenna:

Might be a good antenna if all you need is UHF reception; discussed in great length with store employee that I needed a combo VHF/UHF antenna. This same Radio Shack employee/installer brought the UHF antenna to my home, despite our discussions on what I actually needed. Lousy reception partly because it is wrong antenna; FCC coordinates not followed either which compounds the lousy reception. Disgusted and done with Radio Shack and plan to return antenna.

So, as I mentioned, assuming all you need is UHF, it might be fine. For me, this has been an exercise in unnecessary frustration and expense due to dealing with someone with poor listening skills and who opted to deliver and install the wrong equipment despite what I said I wanted.

Comments about Antennacraft MXU59 UHF Antenna:

I installed it on my roof and ran cable in about 2 hours. Installation was a breeze. I ran coax from antenna to location where cable company did and simply connected. All 4 HD TVS in house are now running off the MXU59/Booster with incredible signal strength. Im totally amazed at the HD picture. On a clear night I recieve up to 31 digital HD channels. Do some research on location of transmitters to you. I found I had three to choose from all within 50 miles max. I would suggest getting a signal booster, well worth the money. I couldnt be happier and you will too..

Tried other antennas and was only getting a few channels from Maine and not getting wmur channel 9 from Manchester. Put up this antenna pointed it at the compass heading for the Boston Ma stations and I am getting all but channel 56. Including ch 9. For the price awesome antenna. Just check what frequencies the tv stations use as this one if for UHF. Antenna is on a 30 foot mast.

Use atleast RG9 with this antenna or RG11 if over 50ft. This is a very good antenna andvery strong for what it does cost. I have installed many of these over the years and never a problem. If it does not work it was from something YOU Did, not the antenna! Thanks for the read! WX9DX

Comments about Antennacraft MXU59 UHF Antenna:

This is a LARGE antenna. The advantage of a yagi over a multi-bay bowtie comes from its ability to reject multipath signals. Its made of aluminum so its relatively light, and its design makes wind loading fairly low. It has a 2nd set of wing nut terminals for a VHF pass-through in case you want to add a VHF antenna to get those 7-13 channels. If you are in an area where VHF broadcast signals are strong, you should do fine even though the MXU-59 is only rated for channels 14-69. Since it is highly directional, you will need a rotator unless all the stations you want are within a 15-20 degree radius of each other.

A cheaper (and much smaller) antenna from [...]at least brings in 4 channels. This thing does not work at all in my area of Milton TN, about 40 miles (by air) from Nashville. If you live in this area save yourself two trips to Radio Shack and pass on this product!

Comments about Antennacraft MXU59 UHF Antenna:

The MXU59 by Antennacraft is a very underrated antenna. This past week I did a comparison test between this antenna and the Antennacraft U8000 and Channel Master 4228 (pre HD model). Each was set up in the same location in the same manner at the same height. Much to my surprise the MXU59 easily outperformed the other two antennas in signal gain and multipath distortion. Out of the ten signals that I receive from Kansas City (all around 35 to 40 plus miles from my house) only Ch. 41 was a bit of a disappointment. While the signal strength is decent, the picture does tend to break up with the MXU59 while it is rock solid on the other two antennas. But aside from that the MXU59 is the better antenna. The other two antennas had weaker signal strength readings on every channel and multipath issues on at least a couple of different channels. They were only superior to the MXU59 on Ch. 41. Next, I'll be doing a roof top mount to see how this unit works when it has some height and a clearer path to the signal.

                    Update on June 2, 2010.

Up on the roof it works better than I expected. When matched with the Winegard or Channel Master Pre Amp, I get a solid 70 to 90% signal strength reading for every Kansas City channel. And when it is pointed towards Sedlia, MO it locks onto the PBS station on Ch. 15 which is about 80 miles away! Neither of the other two antennas worked this well when they too were mounted in the same location on the roof and then paired with the Pre Amps.

Great easy to use instructions, strongly constructed, easily assembled, light weight.
                      I'm in a rural area and used a uhf/vhf
combination antenna for Chicago, IL stations and used this uhf antenna for South Bend, IN stations.
I used a signal combiner with two equal lengths
of coaxial cable to couple the antennas at the mast, which were in a stacked configuration with the combination antenna above the uhf antenna. It worked great without an amplifier.
