Comments about RadioShack® 200-Channel Desktop Radio Scanner:

Easy to program if you know how to read above the third grade level.
The speaker jack on the back is NOT amplified and has very low volume output !
This can be solved with an amplified speaker.
      Picks up pretty good !
If you do not know your local frequencies Google
      "Scanner frequencies" or "RADIO REFERENCE.COM"
Radio reference is up to date and will have everything you are looking for.
The only bad thing I have found about this radio is : Adjacent channels will come in with static.I.E. 460.450 will come in on 460.435 if you have both channels in use in your area.

Comments about RadioShack® 200-Channel Desktop Radio Scanner:

Don't have a clue as to what the other people who posted is with having issues programming this thing. It's so easy, a monkey could do it, especially if you actually tried reading the instructions, which I didn't have to do as I'm familiar with scanners.

Brought scanner home, plugged it in, hit the PD/FD button and poof, there's the police and fire dispatches!

Looked online for frequencies in my are, which is very to find, and entered a few extras for my area and airport and county road commissions!

Piece of cake to operate all the way around. As far as the people who mentioned this scanner is junk because everything is going digital, that's still so far in the future, who cares? Besides, this thing will still work even then. for most channels.

I bought this for my dad for Father's Day, he's wanted one for years. I give it to him, we try to set it up and we're not getting anything except the weather updates. I go online to find the the scanner codes we thought we needed to get the PD/FD calls, come to find out all scanners have gone digital. Save your [$] and buy something useful. Returning it tomorrow.

Comments about RadioShack® 200-Channel Desktop Radio Scanner:

I've had scanners since the old crystal days. This scanner is super easy to program and set up. The Reception is clear. Note, you may want to make your own antenna if you live near tall buildings. I'm getting ready to purchase a triple trunking scanner which I've used and programmed before. Still gonna keep this one.

Comments about RadioShack® 200-Channel Desktop Radio Scanner:

Go with the GRE PSR-200U..this is basically the same scanner but with a signal strength meter, and CTCSS/DCS which is called PL-private line by Motorola. It is on sale at Radio Shack for [$]. Each agency uses a frequency and a sub-tone squelch so they don't have to hear other agencies on the same frequency. This alone is well worth it. The Radio Shack version PRO--405 DOES NOT HAVE THAT FEATURE so if your in a congested area like Metro New York/No. New Jersey..forget about it.
