Comments about RadioShack® AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I gave this radio a 2.0 previous and want to walk it back. I give it a 4 because it's much better than the Sony transistor that I had. I use it around the house and take it from room to room. The sound quality really depends on the type and quality of the battery. Lithiums last longer. Otherwise, radio has a short battery life.

Comments about RadioShack® AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I've had this radio for a month and ready to return it. The sound quality is unstable. I thought it was the batteries, but there's something internal going on with this radio. On one volume setting, it keeps going from high to low, losing the volume.

Comments about RadioShack® AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I use this radio daily at work. For what I use it for, it works great. So far I have been able to get two work weeks, 80+ hours, of use out of this radio on one set of rechargeable batteries rated 2000mah. I wasn't expecting it to go much more than a few days so I am very happy with the battery life.
I use it with stereo earphones and even though the radio is mono I still get sound from both the left and right. The reception of this radio is good. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it does better than the radio in my mp3 player did at work.
The built in speaker is tinny, but what can you expect, it's a transistor radio.

Overall, this is an excellent little radio. It's simple, but for what it is it just doesn't get much better than this.

Comments about RadioShack® AM/FM Pocket Radio:

Got this as a gift, compared it to the Sony handheld of same purpose,as a radio buff I have researched many excellent reviews of this product, the main reason it seems for the wonderful performance is the radio uses a Sil-Labs style chip, upon further inspection, very much like some of the newer Degen and Tecsun radios. Radio Jay Allen has given this radio a good review,so decided to check it out myself! It definitely has a lower noise floor then said Sony, and only thing I noticed is the sound is ultimately not as loud, but is much more pleasant on the ear and not as harsh(hissy) as said competitor product. The chip seems to help with noise threshold, and also is a lot more stable(drift free) then the Sony. The great thing is this is available at any local RS,and is excellent on battery life, especially on AM,and is pulling several weak stations across east central FL in the daytime, without an external loop, even some weaker 1Kw stations that the Sony can't quite pull out of the hash&trash..A Highly recommended radio,a new spin(DSP chip)on an old-school classic style handheld radio that harkens me back to the days of my youth(70s,80s). I think everyone should have one for news, sports talk or other preferred listening. I also highly recommend this for those who have frequent bad weather and/or for those who prep,etc... This is perfect for the bad weather frequently in the FL Space Coast. The FM performance is very good, too, tho will be using this mainly for the MW performance. The only negative is the wrist strap is not pre-installed,and has no plug for external wall adapter. Go Get one today!

Comments about RadioShack® AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I bought this radio at the last minute before Hurricane Sandy. I couldn't afford anything expensive and bought this one based on the good reviews and price. Sound quality and reception were great; even during the storm, I had a clear signal to stations that were still broadcasting, on both AM and FM frequencies. This little guy also got me through a week-long power outage. The batteries haven't died yet, and I listened to it A LOT. Thank you RadioShack for making a product that made a difficult time more bearable.

My wife bought this for Hurricane Isaac because we did not have a radio anymore.
I forgot how much I like to listen to NPR on a real radio & the music sounds good too.

Comments about RadioShack® AM/FM Pocket Radio:

This is a useful little radio, 1200586. It gets a good, clear signal on the only station I listen to, my local NPR station, WNYC, and doesn't need the included telescoping antenna. The only knock on it is that the sound quality is rather sharp and harsh, as compared with my still functioning 12-464, sadly no longer available. Main use in our house is hanging out of the way in a bathroom, or set at your elbow for listening while eating or working, so that you don't have to wear earbuds. Functions well with two AA, rechargables in my case. I bought two of these, one as a gift. Neither had the promised wrist strap, but the case has a loop where you could add one.
