Let me start with they are JUNK! 35 mile range is bull. I bought a set and took them on a hunting trip. My dad and I were 400 -500 yards apart and couldn't communicate with each other. My dad had his other radio a Motorola T7200, he takes it out of his back pack and turns it on and it sounded like he was only 20 yards way.

This radio is a nice FRS radio but the manufacturers continue to exaggerate the range capabilities. NO FRS radio is going to communicate 35 miles unless you are atop two giant mountain tops 35 miles away under good conditions. Typically, an FRS radio is good for about 1/2 mile. Figure 1 mile per watt of power. Just look at the wattage of power this radio has and there's your answer.
