Here is a phone that is a protest against the 'postage stamp sized' telephone; you know :the ones you put down somewhere and can never find an hour later, while it is ringing!? And this writer is old enow to remember this phone when it was 'only slightly out of date'! The new one keeps the size of the original phones, and the weight. For me that is fine, I have a large hand, and with this, I can use my entire hand to grab the phone, and the mouthpiece is at my lips, rather than my eyebrows! Mostly happyily, it does nothing but ring-with a BELL! No flashing red lights, no tiny green screen which gives you the stock prices of the Antient Inka Empire, no pictures, video, burglar alarm, nor 'Joe Beets and the Tone Deafs playing the "Freediona National Anthem on a Kazoo"! These are the good points. The negative,a production change elimated the cloth wrapped handset cord, and they stuck a black plastick coil cord on it-it looks ugly.The Volume is either High or Low, no middle, a volume control would be a plus. The originals had the cradle assemble close the contact, this one has an ugly black knob in the center. And last, it lacks the handy center drawer, where you could store a small pad of paper and a golf pencil, to write a note. Now that should have been there. I am sure Bakealite material would not be likley, but would have been a nice touch. In fine, if you want a reliable, useful phone, with good sound (going both ways-which you do not always have on some retro phones)then buy this. If you want a 'gadget monster' look elswhere.
