    Comments about Midland® GXT1050VP4 50-Channel GMRS/FRS Radio (2-Pack, Camo):

Optimial conditions is the key word here. Yes I'm sure it is very possible to acchive a 35 mile range with these radios. Under OPTIMIAL conditions, perfect line of sight,no other Rf transmissions on or close to yours,no man made noise and no backround noise (The Earth creates it's own noise). But unfortuneatly, your going to use these radios in the real world. Your going to use the PL or DPL functions (The Private Function) These require a certian level of signal to open and let you hear the other guy. Open Squelch, lets you hear a lot further BUT now you'll hear that constant "Static" My tests show you should get around 1/4 mile of reliable communications under NORMAL conditions. This is just another AD gimmick to get you to buy there product. The RF power output is regulated by the FCC, there is a set limit 500mw. or 1/2 of a watt I do beleive is the max for these GMRS/FRS radios. No way in hell are you going to get 35 miles out of a 1/2w radio, espically an HT. You would need a lot more steam than that to go 35 miles. The best advice I have is to try them out in the real world first, see if they work for you,and if they do'nt live up to your expitations TAKE THEM BACK.

          Comments about Midland® GXT1050VP4 50-Channel GMRS/FRS Radio (2-Pack, Camo):

In our deercamp, we have several different styles of Midland transceivers. I bought these and a friend bought the 60 channel model. None of these will interface with one another. Utilizing the same channel, and spending 3 hours of valuable time hunting, we were unable to make the three models cooperate with one another. If anyone has any advice or help, please feel to e-mail me @ [@].We still have two weeks at deer camp coming up and would love to be able to use them. thanx

            Comments about Midland® GXT1050VP4 50-Channel GMRS/FRS Radio (2-Pack, Camo):

I bought 6 sets of these because of the claimed ability of being able to have a "direct" call to another radio without alerting the other users. After calling Midland direct I find out it is for the call alert function only, not the conversation. That is still broadcast to everyone in your group.
            Very misleading.

i think these walkies suck if you are not on flat land with no trees around they want reach but about a mile so i dont think they will go thirty six miles at all.

I have the older version of this radio that had scramble.
Scramble was the best part of this radio
Now that it's gone, the radio has little value.
Like all high power radios, it is VERY hard on batteries unless you use low power.
Audio quality nowhere near that of the Motorolas
              I have.
Most of the "extra" channels are not extra at all.
They are simply the same frequencies already on EVERY radio on the market.
Overall a dissapointment when compared to ANY of the 6 models of Motorolas I have.

This has been a very good investment. My husband is disabled and by using these we can stay in contact with each other both in the house from room to room and outside, like when he is on the riding mower. We love them!
