For me, this book is fantastic and I just purchased it. I actually purchased it to fill in the gaps that my electronic learning lab didn't quite fill. Even after beginning reading this book, I, and my wife "together" performed some of the initial demonstrations in the first chapter. It's funny because we went to [...] at 8:30 pm to pick up some things to test out. I have the learning lab, and my plan was to do a circuit a day. That was prior to purchasing this book. Now, I am focusing on the book, and then, I am going back to the learning lab. But basically, "anyone" interesting in electronics, this book would be great as a first read! Many of the illustrations seem simplistic, however, there is value in them, along with the "notebook" style. If I had to pick a con, it would simply be that it is paperback, and I can see myself referring back to this book, if nothing else, but to illustrate to others, therefore, much wear and tear. But as long as it is in print or "e" form, no problems. But it is a great book for the fundamentals and then I am thinking, on to the engineering notes by Mimms. If in doubt, simply google the title of the book and read the reviews. If your an engineer or electronics major, probably a boring and redundant read, but for learning, I can't think of a better book.

this book is good but if you want a better one use Make : electronics, might be a bit pricey but its the best book ever.! its great and you truly understand everything.

I was always looking for a book like this . I always wanted to learn about electronics but every single time I ended up getting a Fat book with lot of tiny fonts and boring texts . This is the book that has the most expensive content at a very low price. It was an affordable book. I haven't finished the entire book but am at few pages away from ending. last pages mostly has 100 circuits which i think will be very useful to me and to every one else who will purchase this didactic book in future.

I was very interested in learning about basic circuits, but being only 14 I pretty much had to scan the web to find what I needed. But one day when I was getting components at my local Radio Shack I noticed this book. I took a quick glampse through it and I immediatle knew that for [$] it was well worth it. I have done nearly all of the examples in the book with a solderless breadboard, and now I have convinced my school to do a coarse using this book.

Lots of other books talk about diodes. But hardly any of them tell you how to connect them, using the band on the diode and the band in the schematic symbol. Lots of other books talk about electrolytic capacitors, but they don't tell you how to identify the positive and negative leads. Mims does tell you about those practical things, things that you need to know if you are going to build any electronic projects.
