I just received this about 72 hours ago but it handles both types of rechargeable [Ni-Cd & NiMH] as advertised. {just do not mix and match as instructions say} The heavy transformer coil I believe will make this a long lasting unit. No more flimsy wall-mount charging for me ;-)

Someone said you need to put two batteries for a charge to happen. This I found not true. Which is really bad. Considering one would be charged to much. With the other not fully charged.

I do not know if the other issues have been discontinued. Having a d9ischarge button is very helpful. Considering batteries need to be as low as possible before being recharged.

The last charger from radio shack has a lid over the bays. Although pretty useless for me. What happened? I guess the cover "cost to much".

As for the charging process. To me this is where information is confusing. Also the old one charged by voltage only. Information on this reads like the charger is more the time type. Thereby batters could be overcharged easily.

There is information in the manual sayinng you need to put D batteries through TWICE. Why?

There are several solar lights in my backyard. Recharging the ni-cd batteries is much cheaper that buying new batteries frequently.

I use this item to save on batters. I love it. My family uses alot of batteries. I will save a lot of money. Best purchase I ever bought. Once you get the Batteries thats when you start to save money.

Located product on site, and saw the battery types to be charged, but finally after purchasing and had in my possession found things to be a bit strange. Called Lenmar, no reply. Followed up with email, and answer stated it was for use with other than alkaline batteries. The setting switch alerted me to a possible difference. The charging battery list had a small mention of "Ni-Mh", but listed all the commonly used batteries. [...]

I only use this twice and the thing will not work any more.

Listing does not explain that this product uses a timer to charge the batteries.

There is no circuitry to detect when the battery is charged. If you put fully charged batteries in this, it will attempt to charge them for 8 hours.

D cells require TWO individual charging cycles to fully charge.

I'm disappointed that Radio Shack would even carry this, much less list it without adequate description.
