The HDP-269 is an excellent choice where there is a mixture of strong and weak TV signals in an area. It has high-input capability, so it won't overload in the face of strong signals, making it a good choice where the user wants to run multiple TV sets from one antenna, or is trying for a weak TV station (s) where there are other stronger signals, such as you might find when living close to TV transmitters and looking for an out-of-town station. The HDP-269 has roughly 12DB gain, which is enough to power up to 4 TV sets when used with a high-quality 4-way splitter, and it will have enough power to overcome line losses associated long runs of coaxial cable.

The HDP-269, or any other preamp, will NOT compensate for a bad or an inadequate antenna, but can provide a useful boost to signals when used under the right circumstances.

This is a good antenna amplifier, but you must actually *need* an antenna amplifier in order for it to do you any good.

* If the signal at the antenna is weak, an amplifier probably won't help.

* If the signal at the antenna is good, but you have a lot of loss in the cable, then an antenna amplifier might help.

Things that cause losses in the cable: long lines and/or splitters connecting to two or more receivers.

If you buy an antenna amplifier in hopes of it helping your reception without knowing what the actual problem is, you will almost always be disappointed.
