Comments about RadioShack 1.64-Ft. (0.5M) SMA Female to SO239 Female RG-316 Cable:

it's a 300mhz cable because one of the connectors is supposedly 300mhz. "UHF" connectors (pl-259, so-239) are pre-WWII designs and not what is modernly called UHF - they are nominally rated at 300mhz. on top of that, statistical tests show them to be pretty lousy at anything over 30-50mhz - so it's not exactly something to worry about.

for higher frequencies get something like rg8 with n or sma connectors on the other end.

Comments about RadioShack 1.64-Ft. (0.5M) SMA Female to SO239 Female RG-316 Cable:

This cable is too short, and too expensive for it's length. But it is Friday night and Field Day starts tomorrow. I need to wean by BaoFeng UV-5R off the rubber duck if I am going to make any contacts with it.The reason for putting a pigtail on a handheld radio to connect it to a real antenna is that the pigtail relieves strain on the handheld connector from the weight of the coax, otherwise you would just buy an SMA female to SO-239 female adapter and plug your LMR-400 directly into the radio. This cable is not long enough and is much too stiff to relieve any strain. Just the weight of the SO-239 alone puts more strain on the radio connector than I want.It is also difficult to screw the SMA into the radio because it doesn't have a swivel built in. I found it easiest to turn the radio upside down and let the cable dangle beneath the radio while I am screwing it it.I think this pigtail will work, but if I didn't need it right away I would have waited to see what I could pick up something longer and more supple at a hamfest.N.B. This is a female SMA connector. Most radios I have seen have a male SMA connector on the antenna and a female on the radio. So this connector will not work with my Yaesu VX-8DR. It will attach to a BaoFeng UV-5R. (no idea what it is going to do to my SWR though but on a [$] radio I'll risk it)

Comments about RadioShack 1.64-Ft. (0.5M) SMA Female to SO239 Female RG-316 Cable:

Seems to be decent, I think its way overpriced and very flimsy, I would have liked to see a little bigger cable. Had to purchase a sma male to sma male adapter to adapt it to my Handy Talkie. However with this set-up it will work on the Wouxun KG-UV6D HT radio. I use this to adapt to an external antenna for business band and ham band use with my handie talkie. If it had a little bigger cable and the male sma end, I would have given it 10 stars.

when combined with the male to male sma adapter, this works as its described but all radios have a male plug on them,If this was sold in the correct end, it would get a 5 star rating.

I returned this device because I wanted to use this an an interface between my antenna tuner and my 3 band HT. However hidden on the back of the package in small letters it states .3Ghz Max Freq.
They could have put out 300MHZ but they probably loose more sales. Increase the Font size and most people would pass on this.

Most Transeivers have the SMA threaded end, at least all of mine do, so this cable will not work with most of the Transeivers/Radios without an additional adaptor.
