Comments about RadioShack SPST16A/125VAC Illuminated On/Off Rocker Switch:

If you Google "275-021 wiring" you will see a link for a recall "Product safety recalls - Radio Shack", this notice shows the correct wiring diagram on-line.

One side of AC power is routed to the center pin-2 (L); when the internal switch mechanism is closed (shown external), that power is routed to Pin-1 where you connect the line-side of the load. The other side of the load can go directly to neutral and does not need to go to the switch unless it is convenient; however, you must route the neutral-side to Pin-4 in order for the switch to light (Pin-3 is not used).

        • High 16A Rating a Plus

Comments about RadioShack SPST16A/125VAC Illuminated On/Off Rocker Switch:

Had to use this to replace an illuminated rocker switch on a high end home applicance. It was slightly too large a switch in diameter for the "metric" mounting hole, but it's higher current rating and dual power Red & Green power state indication is a nice feature. The schematic is OK if you know NEMA code wiring (L = Line(Blk) N = Neutral (Wht) and Load is in series with the switched contacts.

Comments about RadioShack SPST16A/125VAC Illuminated On/Off Rocker Switch:

Good high amp switch. Maybe overkill for my operation, but had to be sure. The wiring diagram might be useful to an electrician, but it took me a bit to figure it out. I was probably over thinking it. I tend to do that.

Comments about RadioShack SPST16A/125VAC Illuminated On/Off Rocker Switch:

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of RadioShack electrical switches due to faulty installation instructions. The wiring instructions that come with the illuminated round rocker switches, catalog number 275-0021 with date codes of 01P09 or January 2009 or early, are incorrect, specifically a diagram on the package, the Commission said. About 18,000 of the switches were sold nationwide from June 2008 and January 2009 for about [$]. Consumers were advised to contact RadioShack Corp. of Fort Worth, Texas, for correct installation instructions. Consumers can call 800-843-7422 for information.

Comments about RadioShack SPST16A/125VAC Illuminated On/Off Rocker Switch:

The diagram on the package is very confusing to say the least. If installed the way it indicates you will be switching the ground side of the voltage supply input to your circuit - NOT a good thing to do.

Pin 2 should be connected to the incoming "hot side" voltage; the output side of the switch (going to your load) is pin 1. Pin 4 must then be connected to ground for the lights inside the switch to work.

The switch operates fine when connected properly - just don't follow the diagram on the package to hook it up.

Comments about RadioShack SPST16A/125VAC Illuminated On/Off Rocker Switch:

The package documentation is very poor, and the diagram on the back does not properly denote hot and neutral connections. If you wire it according to the package directions you'll be switching the neutral, which is very unsafe and violates code. Also, in the description on the site no mention is made of the fact it has dual LED's, green for ON and red for OFF.
