I found reception to be inconsistent, even though I had not moved my HDTV antenna from 1 day to the next. I also agree that they do not last long, I purchased 2 units and both are not working after only 2 years. I am searching currently for a different brand, hopefully something that lasts longer with better reception.

It does the trick. I love free TV. I just wonder why the price point is so high for such a simple function. It seems like a product of this kind should cost less.

I was in need of one converter for my Sony LCD TV which suprisingly enough didn't have tuner up to snuff. After googling and [@] a bit to get a price range, and finding nothing at [@], stopped in at the Shack and picked this up. Was just a bit more than I expected to pay, but after getting it up and running was completely satisfied. Only con is I don't know how to use the remote to power on and off the TV yet, if indeed it can. Pro was it has a remote, and displays EPG and I get a dang fine picture with my new roof mounted antenna. Wife was curious why the picture (analog) actually looks better than our high end LG HDTV in the living room - just must be a better tuner than the LG has.

We bought several of these units to use with our TV antennae. They work great, provides many more channels than we would otherwise receive with just the antennae, all for free. No need to buy new TV's or pay for cable. Highly recommend!

I bought this converter box a little more than 3 months ago (and it wasn't cheap either)!The remote quite working just days after the time period that I could have returned it to the store. I bought a universal remote, that was working really well, but then a few days ago the converter box quit receiving the remote signal!! (I know there is nothing wrong with my new remote because it works with my other devices). I emailed DS tech support, and they never emailed me back. Don't buy this converter box, it's a hunk of junk. Research different boxes and find something with better reviews, and made by a company that will stand behind their products.

I am extremely pleased with this product and have no issues. I have been using it every day for a little over a year now and there is no sign of it shorting out. Decided to finally write a review after I had had it a while and share my thoughts.

I was a little weary of this product when I received it as a home warming gift from a friend (was going from cable to nothing) once I saw the reviews. But, I can honestly say it's still going strong. (Yes, I look at reviews for everything)

I have this DTV box paired with the Radio Shack Amplified Indoor Antenna, which I already owned (the one that looks like the Starship Enterprise) and get awesome reception in my sub-basement apartment. Running with RCA cables and the picture is crystal clear.

PROs:

My biggest PRO with this device is the on-box volume controls. I am using it with an older CRT TV that doesn't have a remote anymore. The sleep timer is also a huge PLUS since I can't get to the sleep timer on TV (or if your TV doesn't have one). Aspect Ratios are as follows - 16:9, 14:9, ZOOM (takes any aspect ratio and centers the image to fit your 4:3 TV), and Anamorphic. The Electronic Program Guide (EPG) will show between 12-24 hours of programs, depending on the TV station. You can also scroll through the EPG and see information for that show.

CONs:

Coaxial Connection? I can't fully comment on this because it may actually be my TV (or cable) or it might not. But there is a lot of noise from the coaxial connection. (RCA connection is crystal clear)

Other Thoughts:

I have a question for anyone that has had heating problems with your box. Have you had you box in an enclosed area or entertainment center? This device has vent holes on top of the device that can't be obstructed and need decent airflow. This box has lived on top of the TV with nothing on it. So these are my thoughts for the over heating problem.

Conclusion:

I am extremely happy with this product. It does what it supposed to. It has kept me sane with at least local TV stations. It is used on average of about 5 hours after work, and can be 10+ on my days off, even if it's just for background noise. I see this product lasting quite a bit longer. I have not seen any sign of degraded signal either.
