Comments about RadioShack SPST 125/250VAC 16/10A Illuminated Round Rocker Switch:

Immediately burned out one of the LEDs. I'm a casual hobbyist, but know basic circuit design. Unfortunately, this part, as usual for Radio Shack components, provides incomplete specifications. I was using in a non-standard way, but even used in a standard way, incomplete specs / info is given. As others have noted, if you remove the black box and use 12V DC for the LED circuit, you can use a 220 - 270 ohm resistor in series to provide the correct voltage to that portion of the circuit. There is plenty of "real estate" on the packaging for Radio Shack to provide more information or even a schematic. I've also noticed some components provide much more info than others. A consistent and complete convention for provided info would be so helpful to users.

Comments about RadioShack SPST 125/250VAC 16/10A Illuminated Round Rocker Switch:

I'm in the process of putting some LED's in my motorcycle helmet and thought this switch would look amazing.
I chopped off the box that it came with and plan to use a 23A 12 Volt battery to power everything. I'm running it all in series and am wondering if anyone can help me install this light so it lights up when the lights are turned on.
It works so far but the light never goes off.
Do I have to add an additional prong on the back?
I've never done this sort of project before and don't know any electricians. Kind of lost.

Comments about RadioShack SPST 125/250VAC 16/10A Illuminated Round Rocker Switch:

The packaging does not supply a schematic, so here is what you need to know: Connect one white wire coming out of small black converter box to neutral 110v. Assuming that you are using the switch to control the hot side of your 110v. circuit, connect the other white wire to the switched side of the switch. This will make the blue LEDs light when the switch is closed. Of course, you may want the LEDs to light from another 110v. source, and this switch design allows you to do so.

For those who aren't using the light because you want to use it with 12VDC and not 120VAC simply remove the black box and put a 220Ohm resister on the red wire and connect it to 12VDC. Put black to ground. Works just fine with 12VDC. And it's bright too!

Comments about RadioShack SPST 125/250VAC 16/10A Illuminated Round Rocker Switch:

I installed a GPS in the lower consol inside my 1999 Ford Explorer and used this switch to hard wire it to the feed for the accesory 12V supply plug on the side of the lower console. Removed A/C module from switch, used a 270 ohm 1/2 watt resistor in series on the + side of the LED feed. If you dont use a resistor you will burn the LEDS out. I cut a hole with 3/4" holesaw and popped the switch in the console, looks like factory job. The blue glow lights up just the right amount using 270 ohms and 12v feed.

Comments about RadioShack SPST 125/250VAC 16/10A Illuminated Round Rocker Switch:

This switch works well. I use it as the power switch on a home audio amplifier, but the blue LED's were too bright. After modification, I got it to a perfect brightness for my application.

If you want to lower the brightness of the blue light, you can open the black box (just 1 screw holds it together) and replace R2 (small can style resistor). The stock value is 220 Ohm. After some experimentation (1k, then 10k, then 20k, and finally 100k) I found the brightness level I wanted (100 kOhm, which makes it very dim). An 1/8 watt leaded resistor, properly placed, will fit into the case. Of course, you should only attempt this modification if you have the electrical knowledge and soldering skills to safely complete it, and at your own risk!

Thought I'd add a measurement that RS doesn't supply: the little box is .92" long (distance along the wires), .88" wide (across the wires), and .45" thick. It is just plugged into the back of the switch, though, so if it's too big you can remove it and just not have the glowy ring.

Also added a photo from the rear, so you can actually see the connections. Main connectors are two 3/16" spade terminals.
