Comments about RadioShack SPST 16A 125V Illuminated Round Rocker Switch with Red LED:

          Radio Shack #275-0020

This is a very nice switch, it can carry full line voltage and it eliminates the need for an additional LED or neon light to the build.

Since the Radio Shack switch packaging doesn't give a diagram of the wiring, this might help:

          Pin #1 & Pin #2 - LED never on
          Pin #2 & Pin #3 - LED always on
          Pin #1 & Pin #3 - LED On & Off

For U.S.A. builders, the 20mm mounting hole is slightly smaller than 13/16".

Use of a stepped-type drill bit is suggested.

There are two ways you can wire this switch. 1. If you want the light on constantly: Pin 1: Line in. Pin 2: Load (switched). Pin 3: Neutral. 2. If you want light on only when the switch is on: Pin 1: Load (switched). Pin 2: Line in. Pin 3: Neutral. I wired mine the 2nd way to control a light that is out of view of the switch. Works well.

We hooked it up to small DC motor, just wired the + and - terminals to the two silver tabs and ignored the ground. Works like a charm, and the installation was a piece of cake too! I'll definitely be back for more.

When I bought the switch I was surprised the wiring information wasn't on the packet, but I figured it must be on the RadioShack website. Amazingly, it's not! Except for the information provided by a few users (thanks folks!) [...]Selling mains voltage rated electronic components with no wiring information to the general public is very poor practice!

Comments about RadioShack SPST 16A 125V Illuminated Round Rocker Switch with Red LED:

I purchased this switch for a 12v project I was building, only to find out that (due to my own neglect) the Switch/LED indicator is rated only for use with 125v AC.I only discovered the switch was wrong, after I had a $300.00 enameled filled face plate CNC machined-Uh Oh! After looking through the Shack's catalog for a 12v version, I was disappointed to see that the switch is not made for that application. However, all was not lost, I was able to easily convert this switch for 12v use. If you carefully pop out the rocker part of the switch, there is a small circuit board which contains a surface mount rectifier and chip resistor. Simply, remove those components and install a single leaded resistor in place between which ever pin you will attach your 12v positive and the cathode end of the LED. I chose a 2.2k 1/4 watt resistor to get the glow just right, but your application may require a different resistance.Overall, the quality is good and looks perfect in my project. RS sells a larger version of this switch for 12v use, but I like the compactness of this switch better.
