These two LEDs worked and they were at an extremely low price. These LEDs seem almost like a black light because they emit light in the Visible to Ultraviolet spectrum. I tried to be very critical of these LEDs and the only problem is that I think they emit too much visible light and not enough UV. (Yeah I'm that crazy) When it's dark it is fun to see what colors things glow under both LEDs. White objects glow a blueish color while green appears red under the UV. Get this LEDs if for some reason you want UV light. (Or be crazy like me and get them because I could)

used this along with 100 ohm 1/4W resistor, medium project box, on/off swtich, 9V batt, and plug to make pocket uv lamp. makes fluorescent stuff glow bright. glow in the dark stuff stay lit longer and with a orange or yellow filter capable of seeing gross stains everywhere. used this to make the sights on my gun glow after putting glow in the dark paint on them. also made white clothes glow for my kid. cheaper than buying big room sized tube and can be used to write message in GID paint on walls(clear stuff) can also be used to party with since its keeps ur night vision clear.

replaced the white LEDs on some lights and stuck them into the aquarium with 6 glofish, it lights them up very well.

It is apparent that some customers are not aware that the Candela (as in .280 mcd) attempts to quantifies light intensity as it is perceived by the human eye. Since these are *ultraviolet* LEDs...

It's kind of annoying when a perfectly fine product gets panned thru sheer ignorance.

I turn it on and can't see it. Takes a really high voltage to make it glow.

The description of High-Brightness should be removed altogether. 280mcd is nowhere near other high brightness LEDs, like the Blue and white ones that are 3000+ mcd. So they're not well suited to light up opaque plastics "as a light pipe"...much of the light is diffused. Could someone point me to an extremely bright UV LED as bright as the blue and white ones then that would make my day. Although I doubt they make them that bright.

I used a model number 276-014 LED to convert a standard LED flashlight (single LED, triple AAA cell) into a portable black light. The results were less than stellar.

The wavelength of the UV spectrum ranges from 10 to 400 nm, while these LEDs have an advertised wavelength range of 395 to 410 nm. As you can see, 66% of this products range is out of the UV spectrum and the 5 nm wavelength range that is in the (near) UV spectrum is able to fluoresce only substances that are the easiest to excite, leaving a wealth of detectable material undiscoverable.

In contrast, the standard fluorescent black light "tube" emits wavelengths in the 320 to 400 nm range, while still considered near UV, the additional 75 nm of range increases the number of detectable materials many fold. There are UV LEDs that go deeper into the UV range but they are expensive and difficult to find.

Even with their limitations Radio Shack should be commended for bringing these LEDs to market in large quantities and at reasonable prices and I feel that when the price and availability of better lamps improve that they will add these models to their catalog as well.
