Comments about RadioShack 10k-Ohm Wheel Potentiometer:

I made this work on a breadboard by carefully spreading the pins out and bending them 90 degrees so that the wheel stands up instead of sitting flat. Then I jammed the pins into the holes of a pcb board and soldered it in place. Then I soldered jumper wires from my breadboard kit into adjacent holes. I cut the section out of the pcb and inserted it into the breadboard. This is too complicated and fragile for real use, I just got frustrated and decided to force it to work.

Comments about RadioShack 10k-Ohm Wheel Potentiometer:

Pin pitch is 2mm (slightly smaller than 0.1"). Hardware Hacker is correct on pin-outs. Looking down on wheel with pins toward you, numbering left to right:
          1. Common to Ground - CCW shorts to Ground
          2. Wiper of R1
          3. Wiper of R2
          4. End of R2 - CW shorts to wiper

Comments about RadioShack 10k-Ohm Wheel Potentiometer:

Wow, I can believe that this was sold by Radio Shack. No diagrams (I am finding many shortcoming now, even with 2-3 wire LEDS that don't say anything). I think its because RS went to thin plastic annoying packages and hire people to just copy specs haphazardly. I miss the days when you actually got a SPEC SHEET from them!! A dual pot, no drawings, RS has lost it connection with us. I guess you have to be grateful its not given in its original foreign language from over seas. Thats next I'm sure.

Comments about RadioShack 10k-Ohm Wheel Potentiometer:

It works well, and I was glad it was available. Thankfully the other reviews gave me the information I needed to make an informed purchase. Are you listening Radio Shack? I had no idea this was a dual wipe pot and how the 5 pins were connected. Without the other reviews giving me what I needed to know, I would not have bought this. Please figure out what the "Tech Specs" tab is for. There was more technical information on the "product summary" tab. Overall, it worked for me, but I get so frustrated having to guess if the products on this site will meet my needs before I have to buy it and find out.

Comments about RadioShack 10k-Ohm Wheel Potentiometer:

How hard would it be to include a pinout, Radio Shack? In 40 years I've never seen a five pin potentiometer, so it wouldn't be asking too much to explain which pins do what. Sure, I could test a couple dozen possible combinations. But since this item is way way over priced, I figure the least you could do is document what you are selling. Sheesh.

Thanks to Hardware Hacker for the pinouts. Part surface mounted perfectly for a Magnavox DVD player after flattening the pins. Unfortunately the dial was a bit small, so I had to glue the old dial on top and dremel the housing for a proper fit.

Too bad that the people writing "Tech Specs" don't know technology. It would have been good to know such things like it is a dual pot, that it is log tapered, pin spacing, power rating, etc

So the pin-out is well-described in another reviewer's comments, but I just wanted to stress that the pins are not spaced for breadboard use.

Comments about RadioShack 10k-Ohm Wheel Potentiometer:

I actually used the product many times as a volume attenuator in a homemade acoustic guitar piezo pickup, small speaker setup, and even for various LED (ranging from 4-6 VDC) projects as a dimmer.

This product works as it should and performed great, seems a bit pricey, but that's life sometimes. not too durable, one of them broke while desoldering but not bad any other way
