Comments about RadioShack Snap Choke Core:

In 2013 I installed a wireless rear view mirror/display and transmitter/camera in my pickup truck. I mounted the camera above the window on the truck cap to keep an eye on traffic and things behind the double cab long bed Tundra; great for lane changing. The display is small but complements the mirror. It worked pretty well for over a year, flickering on the display once in a while that I suspect were external things.

This year I installed a separate backup camera in the tailgate handle hard wired to my GPS/Stereo head unit. The interference to the wireless unit became awful. Both cameras are powered all the time from a 12 volt connection in the bed of the truck when the ignition is on the run position.

The head unit switches from normal display to the video from the tail gate camera when the transmission is placed in reverse. From the first time I tried to use both of them I got severe interference on the wireless rear view display to the point where it would flicker and get horizontal bars like an old TV set. Most times it would lock up and freeze within minutes.

I swapped the camera, transmitter, power cords and mirror/display one at a time from my other vehicle. Same result. When I unplugged the tail gate camera power it would work better but not completely flicker free.

Then it dawned on me that modern vehicles have all sorts of signal lines and cables all over them. And given the length of this truck some of them are over 20 feet long!

I bought 4 of these chokes at the local RS and 2 of the smaller ones (#273-067). I put one of these on each of the lines feeding the wireless transmitter-one on the 12 volt power cord and one on the input from the camera. Both of these cords are about 10 feet long. I also put one on the power cord for the tail gate camera at the 12 volts connection. Then I put a smaller one (#273-067) on the power cord at the mirror/display.

That cured the problem. I put all the original stuff back in the truck along with the chokes and all is well. I should have remembered a similar problem I had with a noisy power pack on my laptop. It was killing the wireless connection to my modem until I clamped a couple chokes on the power cables.

Comments about RadioShack Snap Choke Core:

I replaced a pair of Altec Lansing computer speakers with these really nice Sony speakers with a built-in subwoofer, that I found at a thrift store. They sound ten times better than my old speakers but the only problem is that they're nearly 20 years old and they're not shielded, so I always got static interference from my USB wifi stick, it sounded awful. A quick Google search told me that these ferrite cores were what I needed, so I bought some and installed them, no more static! :) Now I can listen to music in great quality without the static.

Comments about RadioShack Snap Choke Core:

USB cables are sensitive to RFI and the use of these devices at each end of the cable reduces spurious signals considerably.

I use several types of signal measuring equipment connected to a computer through the USB input. The snap-together ferrite chokes reduce the noise to an acceptable level.

Had real annoying static on a new cordless phone. Heard about these ferrite cores and how they might be the cure. Through a process of elimination (unplugging likely sources of emi/rfi) and discovered it was a heating pad. It produced the interfernce even when switched off! I put one of these snap choke cores on the power cord near the plug and voila, no more static.

Does a good job cleaning up low level RF/EMI. Suitable for low powered environments like high-end computer playback systems. Overall effect is more effective if used in input and output circuit wiring, especially power supplies and speaker inputs. More is better, but the overall effect is still subtle. Spend some time with placement. Your jaw will not hit the ground, but what do you expect for [$]?

These chokes work just fine for the purpose for which they are meant. If you're getting RF interference that is coming in via a wire or cable, these chokes will help cut it down or eliminate it. If the interference is coming from somewhere else, you can't expect these chokes to eliminate it. And if you have a multi-thousand-watt commercial broadcast station located just down the street, you can't expect an inexpensive ferrite choke to eliminate interference from a source like that!

Buzzing noise was reduced significantly due to T-Mobile Blackberry on desk with Boston Acoustic desktop speakers. Used 4 (2 packages) of 3.5mm on each speaker and one 17/64" on A/C line into computer - Apple G4 Laptop.

Will probably get another set of 3.5mm to see if they remove the small amount that still bleeds through once-in-a-while.

Even with that many products purchased, it was well worth the investment and convenient to try/return if they didn't work. I recommend trying them, moving their locations on the wire also helps - one close to the speaker, one further away and such.
