Product Summary

Stay on top of stuff.

Many cities and towns have switched their emergency systems to trunking systems that automatically jump from one frequency to another with each transmission. The PRO-163 is designed to keep up with that so you'll get the entire conversation. You'll receive NOAA weather transmissions in your area. Signal Stalker™ II enables you to lock on to nearby transmissions without programming or even knowing the frequencies and permits lockout of undesired frequencies. Follow police, fire, marine bands and more. Use the Pro-163 in your vehicle or on a table at home.

Free scanner programming software download

Comments about RadioShack PRO-163 1000 CH Triple Trunking Mobile/Base Scanner:

Could not program went to dealer twice still same problem finally had dealer to lock out all channels except a few locals. Still have problem with static and poor reception. I,m within 5 to7 miles of these locals. I,m so disappointed and unhappy with this product because I have several RadioShack products that have been excellent. I had a simple Uden scanner for years that worked great. Then I spend all this money on a scanner that I can,t do anything with. Book is worthless to me. Would not recommend to anyone unless they were going to school on it.

I am not uneducated and can program my tv remote, but this scanner is a piece of junk. No support in the store, followed the manual, ended up getting the software to program via computer, still no luck! Will return for a refund.

The only thing I ever found good about this brand was the price, I had a bear cat for 15 years and it still works just the antenna broke off and wanted another bear cat but they don't make them to to pick up the frequencies in our county so I had no choice but to buy this one from radio shack and my sister had bought one for my mom for Christmas last year and hers is no better it doesn't come in well either .DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

Comments about RadioShack PRO-163 1000 CH Triple Trunking Mobile/Base Scanner:

1-800 technical support is non-existent. Instructed to visit local Radio Shack for assistance. I visited 3 stores before finding one person knowledgeable enough to attempt understanding. I did purchased the Pro-163 on-line to listen for local police, fire, and ambulance, dispatchers hard at work.. Forced to purchase (+$40) connector cables and "trial" (2 free downloads) software. This should have unlimited download support. I'll be returning this item as soon as the shipping labels arrive.

Comments about RadioShack PRO-163 1000 CH Triple Trunking Mobile/Base Scanner:

As a single-person news staff at the local paper, I rely on knowing what's happening. I bought this for home after missing a big story and have been happy with it. Do yourself a favor, however, and buy the programming cable and software - it's next to impossible to program trunked frequencies without it. And if you don't want to scan trunked freqencies, the cheaper Pro-404 or Pro-405 will suffice.

I dont know why poeple have a hard time programing this radio when there is a Manual that comes with the radio, its really not hard.
I use this radio to monitor Aviation traffic in the Houston Texas area, Ive always had Radio Shack Scanners, find them to be the best around, very reliable, and honestly havent had any problems from them, I still have a Pro-95 from the Early 90's that I use, no problems.

Comments about RadioShack PRO-163 1000 CH Triple Trunking Mobile/Base Scanner:

This is my first scanner, and I won't lie, it wasn't "easy" to program having never program one before. People say to use the pc interface cable. That thing costs $40 and I am a college student that can use the $40 on something else. It takes about 6 hours of playing with it, to get somewhat comfortable with the controls and to at least know your way around the device. Programming is fairly straight forward and basic. The instructions are a little hard to understand, but once you realize what you are actually doing it is quite simple. I believe there are better written and more detailed instructions on radioreference. I bought this scanner through an online retailer and got it brand new for less than half price, not a refurb. Even for [$] it's a good scanner and will provide you with a lot of hours of listening. I broadcast my scanner through radioreference, and everyone seems to enjoy it that listens to it in my area.
