Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

This is one of the most useful tools I have purchased for under $20. It is just fantastic! I was surprised how quickly it heated up (honestly in about 7 seconds)and the amount of power it had for the quick warm-up time. I unsoldered and re-soldered some BIG steel speaker lugs with ease. Easily exceeds the power of a 15w iron with new batteries! I also fixed my trailer tail light wiring and a couple other things where a plug in iron or a torch were not feasible. I will find lots of other uses for this little guy.

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

I install security video equipment, and am very picky about my wiring connections. I don't like electrical connections without solder because I'm nervous it will fail. Unfortunately, I am seldom anywhere near a power outlet. Since I am frequently wiring overhead from on top of a ladder, using an extension cord just isn't feasible either. This iron is perfect. Flip the switch forward, hold down the red button, wait about 5-10 seconds, and you're hot. Once done with that connection, snap on the protective cover, throw the iron in your tool belt, and move on to prepping the next one. I'm not sure why others have been disappointed. This is a battery-powered item that produces a lot of heat, so you'll need to keep spare AAs around. Since it only produces heat while you are pressing the button though, I can easily complete a job with several connections before ever needing to change them. Maybe I just got lucky with a good one, but I'm really happy with the purchase.

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

This was DOA out of the box. I should have tested it in the store before I left. Nearest store to me is a 2 hour drive. :( I'm a competent electronic tech so I took it apart to see if I could fix it. The LED was defective as is the socket that holds the tip (no voltage). So, no light and no heat. My advice, test it in the store before you buy.

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

The soldering iron works fairly well on small solder joints, but it's rather awkward to operate when you need higher heat or for finely detailed projects. Although a small, simple joint can be made in as little as 8 seconds, you must hold the button on the top the entire time that you are using the iron. Despite having turned it on by the switch, it still turns off the moment you release the spring-loaded button. Although I applaud the idea of an extra safety feature preventing you from turning it on and leaving it on unattended, it makes this iron cumbersome when trying to manipulate fine components at the same time.

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

This heats up extremely fast, even better than my butane irons. Only use rechargeable batteries with this, alkalines don't provide enough current, and have very short life when pumping out the amps. The switch is very flimsy however and you have to slide foreward and press down on the cap (so that the light turns on) for it to turn heat up.
