Cons

  • DOA

Best Uses

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

This was DOA out of the box. I should have tested it in the store before I left. Nearest store to me is a 2 hour drive. :( I'm a competent electronic tech so I took it apart to see if I could fix it. The LED was defective as is the socket that holds the tip (no voltage). So, no light and no heat. My advice, test it in the store before you buy.

My favorite soldering iron

Pros

  • Fast To Cool
  • Fast To Heat

Cons

  • Poor quality

Best Uses

  • Minor Projects

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

This heats up extremely fast, even better than my butane irons. Only use rechargeable batteries with this, alkalines don't provide enough current, and have very short life when pumping out the amps. The switch is very flimsy however and you have to slide foreward and press down on the cap (so that the light turns on) for it to turn heat up.

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

i like using this because its cordless and has a light. great for tight areas in vehicles. however, i dont like that you have to constantly hold the button down when you are using it. it should just have a simple on and off switch. if you are soldering a good amount of wires, be prepared to replace the batteries rather soon. also, its hard to tell if the batteries are weak, because the led is still fairly bright, but the tip wont be hot enough to solder.

Comments about RadioShack Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron:

I bought this to solder a few sensors and pins to an Arduino board. As long as you have fresh batteries it can work great for that.
If you want to desolder something with it, forget it. It's only a 15-watt iron so its usability is very limited. I'll still hang onto it though.

I really like it, and after about an hour of use, it's working well- But why can't I buy replacement tips! I have to buy a whole new iron? Lame.

Bought it to replace some capacitors in my TV and thought the cordlessness of it would be handy.I could not get it to stay hot enough to do anything...and it drained 8 AA batteries super fast.I was able to complete my job in about an hour or two longer time than if I used a cheaper corded iron.I quickly returned the iron [...]I hate this iron with a passion.Do yourself a favor as splurge on any cheaper alternative.

I bought this to make a 27 VDC generator and to take to Afghanistan as a small addition to my tool kit in case I didn't have electricity available to do soldering. This thing doesn't work at all. If it did, it is so cheap and flimsy, it wouldn't last very long, this is really one of the lowest quality things I ever spent [$] on. I am returning it and forgetting about the battery option.

Looked for a light power battery soldering iron for the R/C bag, something that the kids could even learn a little on. Out of the box with brand new batteries this thing was barely warm to the touch after 10 minutes. 365F in 7 seconds is bs.
