Comments about Pyle PLMRCW3 Universal Marine Stereo Housing:

Retainer nuts in both units thAT hold bracket screws are glued in crooked. Housings on both units were warped making cover not seal properly and hard to open. Spend the few extra bucks and get a Jenson housing. Wireing is european color code and very cheap.

Comments about Pyle PLMRCW3 Universal Marine Stereo Housing:

I bought this to mount a very small amp/radio to my scooter, as that I needed a waterproof enclosure. I actually wish that I had spent a little more and purchased a different unit. I have enough fabrication skills to make this work, but I would not recommend this unit for a novice.
Pros - I can modify this and make it work for my application.
Cons - Nearly non-existant instructions (a few illustrations is all). Door does not stay latched after the front gasket is installed. A black plastic panel is included, with a small rectangular hole in the center. I found that this panel will correctly locate in the opening of the main housing, and is probably used as a bezel for the old style car radios. However, using this piece defeats the seal between the main and door housings.
I read that others had trouble with the brass inserts that are used to connect the mounting bracket. Upon receipt of this unit, I examined this. The hole that the inserts are pressed into are too large. I applied ABS cement to the inserts inside the main housing to adhere them to the housing and prevent the "spinning" that others mentioned.
For the door latching issue, I assembled the housing, put the door to the closed position, and put a ratchet strap around the the unit very carefully, and pulled it down tight, and left it for a few days to get the sealing gasket formed where the front door would stay latched. I had looped the ratchet strap around the side of the unit from side to side, not from top to bottom, to get the best results. The door now latches properly. I had to use the aforementioned black panel for my application, so I will use some type of sealant to waterproof this area.
Basically, this is a good unit if you are prepared to do modifications or fabrications to it, and is the cheapest of the housings that I found. However, if you want a better quality, user-friendly housing, I would recommend a different unit.
