Comments about Midland LXT118 18-Mile GMRS/FRS Radios (2-Pack):

I truly expected the long range that was advertised. We lost contact about a block away from the house. The controls are difficult to figure out as well. It was a disappointing purchase and I hesitate spending more money on longer range units for fear I would be wasting my money.

      Comments about Midland LXT118 18-Mile GMRS/FRS Radios (2-Pack):

This product is great. It is very very light and also compact. They are also given an incredibly cheap price and the build quality and material are very good. They have an 18 mile range also, which is very good for long distances. I have not seen better two-way radios that are better and cheaper than these.

      Comments about Midland LXT118 18-Mile GMRS/FRS Radios (2-Pack):

I use these two-way radios (in combination with some old Motorola ones) to keep our three car road trip convoy together. These are much easier and more dependable than CB radios for everyone and they're much more private - it's so much easier to find a clear channel. The batteries keep their charge pretty well from what I can tell. The range is decent but it's blocked pretty well by hills. The sound quality is crystal clear short-range. Build quality is good for the price and they seem pretty rugged. The only downside on these radios is the somewhat-confusing controls. Overall, these are an amazing buy for the price.

        Comments about Midland LXT118 18-Mile GMRS/FRS Radios (2-Pack):

Multiple cars traveling to ski resort. Radios permitted us to coordinate gas and restroom breaks. Then, once on the mountain, our groups could coordinate drop-off, and pick-up. The radios also allowed us to coordinate apres-ski activities.
We made VERY good use of 6 radios on our trip!

        Comments about Midland LXT118 18-Mile GMRS/FRS Radios (2-Pack):

Even on the GMRS channels, range is very limited in urban surroundings. In a colonial-era New England city, they were not usable for communications between points about 1/2 mile apart, but were loud and clear at a range of about 2 blocks. My recommendation to a friend would depend on how he wanted to use them.
