        Comments about Cobra® Cobra CRS399 GMRS/FRS 30-Mile NOAA Walkie-Talkie:

Plan to use at ski slope but the range was too short. Can't even get further than 1 mile.

        Comments about Cobra® Cobra CRS399 GMRS/FRS 30-Mile NOAA Walkie-Talkie:

Those of you who are looking for a feedback, this seems similar to Cobra CX312A-1 in every features. The only difference is the 23 miles compare to 30 miles being advertised. The range is insignificant since the actual range you will get will depend on your location and surrounsdings. I bought this only for NOAA use at home and to put in my car (no worry of battery since it has USB charging if you use rechargeable battery).

        Comments about Cobra® Cobra CRS399 GMRS/FRS 30-Mile NOAA Walkie-Talkie:

I have tried it out in a suburbs of Dallas and it has a less than 1 mile effective communication range. I understand that this walkie-talkie is on the cheaper spectrum, but the claimed 30 mile range in optimum range does not seem to be the case. For a 30 mile range radio, 1 mile should not be a problem in a suburban city. One radio can transmit and the other one can receive decently at this range, but they cannot seem to do both well.

The NOAA radio is great. It's crisp and clear in my area and that will probably be it's primary use from now on. It has a rechargeable capability using standard rechargeable batteries and an usb cable. That's a handy function.

The problem could only be with my radio. However, I will not be purchasing another set to find out.
