I have two of these--one in the shop I have had for several years which I love. Then THIS one I just bought--sound quality is terrible and the volume adjustment is bascially non existant--not a good buy, not at all. I HOPE to be able to return it and try something else.

I love radio and I love -this- radio. I've been using it on a daily basis for a couple of years. No problems with reliability. My expectations of this radio were pretty simple: I wanted to tune into local AM/FM stations to listen to sports, talk, news & sometimes music. Reception is good. I have no problems with it. I live in a ring suburb close to a large city I'm not experiencing the problems others have documented here. I don't use the shortwave band and had no expectation of using it when I bought the radio. This radio doesn't leave my nightstand so I expect it to last quite a while.
History:
I owned four of the previous generation of this radio for listening in the bathroom. One is still in use there every day during my morning routine. I attribute the failure of the previous three to corrosion of circuits or switches due to the high moisture environment in the bathroom. For the price point, I didn't mind replacing them. They lasted 3-4 years each. The extended warranty offered is only 2 years in length and would have expired by the time I needed it.
Likes:
-Digital tuning
-Station presets for AM & FM
-Sleep timer (Press the button once for each 10 minutes of play desired. Excellent option.)
-Uses less batteries than the previous model.
Dislikes:
-None. This radio meets my basic expectations.

Used this radio side by side with another SW radio of comparable size and the other radio was receiving SW radio stations well but not this radio even with the sensitivity setting on DX, I even tried different locations but there was not much improvement in reception. The audio sounds to tiny. What i did like was the features. AM and FM bands are received well.But after 24 Hrs. i opted for a refund.

Lousy speakers, poor reception. Too much static, no volume. And, I still don't know what short wave sounds like, as this doesn't receive anything in that mode.

I use this at work with a power adapter and
ear buds. Provides excellent sound on strong signals and does a decent job of noise rejection
( I'm surrounded by computers and electronic equipment. ) It's the best under $50 radio I've
found ( so far.)

I'am a radio junky as I choose to not have TV.This is my news source and the best radio I have ever owned.The same as a more expensive radio company(nameless)at a much lower price.Ignore the bad ratings and trust.

I use this radio for my home office and for traveling. If you're gonna buy one see if they have an A/C adaptor, or at least buy more batteries. Its hard to tune, way too complex for a device of its kind, and makes all sorts of unpleasant racket when you adjust the volume. The complexity would be acceptable if I were trying to listen to a DX station, (which this unit is supposed to do), however it just fails to function properly. If you wish to spend $ on this kind of radio, select something else.
