What I really like about this receiver is that I can connect my turntable without adding a separte preamp. Connections are clearly marked. Sound is very good. plenty of presets.

Comments about Sherwood RX-4109 Stereo Receiver:

I own two of these, one for over 5 years. More durable than other reviewers have stated. (ALL electronics can produce a lemon now and then.) Works best with large speakers. Tone controls could be more sophisticated/accurate, but all in all a very good unit. Good volume without having to crank it up high.

          • Other Remotes Won't Work

          Best Uses

Comments about Sherwood RX-4109 Stereo Receiver:

Bought this to replace a 16 year old Technics SA-GX110 that lost output in it's right channel.

Very impressed with the build quality, discrete transistor outputs (no flat pack IC output chips), great FM tuner, and very straightforward design. All controls on remote are duplicated on the front panel. I wish more manufacturers would do this.

Sounds is very clean, no over emphasized distorted bass or squealing highs. Very balanced and true to the source, like a quality amp should be. I have no problem driving my old school restored Pioneer HPM-50's with it. If you want a modern 2 channel stereo receiver for a bargain price, look no further. Plenty of inputs for all your analog sources.

The only grip is that the remote codes must be proprietary, cannot get my AT&T U-Verse remote to control the volume/power no matter what code is used. Seems to be an issue with other universal remotes from searching the web as well when it comes to working this receiver, so keep the original remote handy or you'll be getting up to adjust the volume, sources, etc.

Quality piece of gear for cheap. I'd buy another.

Comments about Sherwood RX-4109 Stereo Receiver:

I have had mine for at least 2 years and would buy another , it's a lot easier to operate then some of the other receivers out their I had a receiver that had everything on it had lousy sound and was like operating a computer it was terriable got rid of it and used this .
the rest of my componets are stacked in a stereo cabinet and it has never shut off not sure what the others were doing to have that happen.

Comments about Sherwood RX-4109 Stereo Receiver:

I purchased my 4109 in early May and one of my channels had burned out by early August. Now I either have to take the loss, or go through the hassle of making a warranty claim.

I also have an inexpensive 40 year old Realistic receiver with an 8 track in my shop, that still works. At one time, inexpensive stuff was dependable

This product replaced a previous reciever and has 3 times the power. Bought new speakers for it and can't believe the sound quality it has. I have had no problems like some people with it shutting off after being turned on.With volume on about 40, it sounds like it'll blow you out of the room.Has a good FM wire hook up.

No shutoff if you keep the top wide open. One of only a few receivers that you can connect a set of Bose 901s. Power drives 901's really well. It also has a phono jack. Too bad it doesn't have two.

Comments about Sherwood RX-4109 Stereo Receiver:

For the price it produces a crisp, clear sound.

I found the low frequency (<80hz) reproduction a bit weak, but for the price who can complain!

A powered subwoofer can be a nice addition except for the lack of a subwoofer preout. You will need a powered sub with a built-in crossover and connection points for an amplified speaker signal.

There are several reviews about the receiver "shutting off." There are built in over-current and over-temperature protection circuits which reset electronically. Always disconnect speaker leads before faulting the receiver!
