We took it home and practiced inside due to the cold weather. We began on the hardwood floor, then moved around the house checking different metal noises out. We placed coins, knifes, cell phones, lighter, and whatever else that was laying around to listen to the variety of sounds, so we could decipher what's -what.

Don't think it's detecting things under ground, maybe its just lacking in power & is weak due to what's powering the metal detector--9V.

Bought this as a gift for my tall 7 year old grandson. Bought another for my 5 year old tiny grand-daughter. So much fun, right out of the box. No assembly required. Manual included gave specific instructions on "fitting" the unit for the individual. Only weighs 1.5 lbs. Great for any kids. Follow all instructions ("alkaline 9 volts" only) and you will be finding hidden items quickly. Our first try revealed a large nail, some wrought iron pieces, and a quarter. This is one gift they really will not grow tired of. Bought additional items (trowel, treasure boxes, lighted magnifiers) and created an unforgettable scavenger hunt. They can't wait to take it to the beach.

My 10 yr old received this as a christmas gift. She was very excited when opening it. We used it in the house and it seemed to beep when run over the hardwood floors, guessing it was detecting the nails. So we thought it would work great. Well we went to the beach and it wasn't even detecting pennies, quarters or bottle caps ON the surface, nevermind anything buried below the sand. Don't waste your $$$!!

Bought this detector at a garage sale for my grandsons to use. My four year old grandson took it out this past Sunday and found two pennies, a square nail, several regular nails and an antique eye hook in less than thirty minutes.

My grandson is a beginner so he will be just looking for things on land. He is 7years old and it my be just a bit tall for him, but he really enjoys it.

Don't expedt to find things over 4 inch deep but good product for the money. Easily finds rebar survey stakes for property lines.

Barely locates coins thrown in the grass, much less anything buried even a few inches.
